[This, once again, has not been edited.  It's not my fault though!  I'm tired, and I was going to watch a movie instead of writing this, but I said I'd get it out today, so... here you all go... :)]

Lost in Existence

Day Eight

Beep.   Beep.

Why was something beeping?  It was waking me up from my peaceful sleep.

I hardly ever set my alarm, and I didn’t have anything like a phone, so what could be beeping?

I forced my eyes opened and I was overwhelmed by all the white.

Glancing around, I noticed that I was not in my room.  Actually, I had no idea where I was.

I looked to where the beeping was coming from and I blinked rapidly.  What was with all the hospital equipment?

I groaned as suddenly it all came rushing back to me.  The corner store, the robbery, the police…

What had happened?

The last thing I could remember was being pushed away from the robber.

I ran through my mind, trying to recover my memories, but it was all just a big blank.

Before I could think about my situation further, a nurse came in staring down at a clipboard.  I stared at her, waiting for her to notice me.

She glanced up briefly before looking back down before she froze.  Her eyes snapped up to me.

“Oh my!  You’re awake!” She exclaimed.

“Sadly.” I muttered, even though she didn’t hear me.

“I’ll go get the doctor, stay put!”

Then she rushed out of the room quickly before I could respond.

Why was she so energetic?

I slumped back against the bed and sighed deeply.  My head was pounding and each second the pounding was getting worse.  I rubbed my temples and closed my eyes.

I waited for a few minutes, trying to get the pounding to go away, when I heard the door open.  I immediately stopped rubbing my temples and slowly opened my eyes to look at who I assumed was going to be the doctor.

A man in a white coat walked in. “Hello.” He said, breaking the silence, smiling.

“Hi.” I simply replied, not really knowing what to say.

“How are you doing?”

I couldn’t help but groan.  “My head is pounding.”

He nodded as if he expected it.  He reached into his pocket and took out a bottle of medication.  Taking out two pills, he handed them too me, and also reached for a glass of water nearby.  “That should help.  My name is Dr. Maller by the way.”

I just nodded at him and swallowed the pills without question.  I took a couple sips of the water and sighed.

It was silent for a few moments while I waited for the pain to go away.

“What happened?” I blurted out before I could stop myself.

Dr. Maller sighed and sat in the chair next to the bed.  “It would probably be better if the police explained it to you, but I can at least tell you what happened.”

“You were practically thrown to the ground and you hit your head, hard.  You got a slight concussion.  It’s nothing major, but you will be experiencing pain for a little bit.  Other than that, you are unharmed.”  He looked at me sincerely.
