Lost in Existence

Epilogue

Knock.  Knock.

“Lucy?”

There was no answer.

“Lucy, you there?  Apparently you’ve haven’t come out of your room all day.  I didn’t go to school today because I wasn’t feeling good.  Lucy… You okay?”

There was still no answer.

“Lucy?!”

Sighing, Vanessa Brettz tried opening the door even though she suspected that it would be locked.

To her upmost surprise, the knob turned.  The door slowly swung open and Vanessa glanced inside.

She hoped Lucy was okay.  She had only spoken to her once before, but she was still worried about her.

“Lucy…” She began as she stepped into the room. “You here?  I wanted to…”

She trailed off as she glanced around the room.

Her eyes suddenly widened and her body froze.

A scream of pure horror escaped her lips.

Principle Talope heaved a heavy sigh as he leaned back in his chair.  He ran a hand along his face as his tired eyes closed.

There was a knock on the door which made him groan in pain.  His work was never finished.

“Sir, I have a letter that was just dropped off for you.” Erin, his assistant, announced.

Not evening bothering to open his eyes, he responded, “Lay it on my desk.  Who’s it from?”

“It doesn’t say.”  She simply replied putting it on his desk before leaving the room and quickly shutting the door.

He sat forward, letting his eyes drift open, and grabbed the envelope.

‘To Mr. Talope’ it read.

Talope tore the envelope open and delicately pulled the letter out.  Unfolding it, he began to read the words written in blank ink.

Half an hour later, exactly at 2 in the afternoon, there was another knock on the door.

“Sir, someone has just dropped off a recor---“

“Just put it on my desk.  I know what it is.” He cut her off, not caring if he was being rude or impolite.

“Um… Okay…” She trailed off.  Erin did as he asked, laying it on his desk.

She then began to make her way out of the room, but stopped in the doorway.  “Are you okay?”

“I’m fine, Erin.  Don’t worry about me.”

“Okay…” She shut the door behind her.

Talope’s eyes were trained on the recording.

He suddenly reached over to his announcement machine(A/N I have no idea what it’s called).  He pressed the button and it lit up, showing him that he was broadcasting to the entire school.  “Students, and teachers, we’re having an assembly at three in the auditorium.  It is mandatory that you attend.  I understand that it’s Friday and the end of the school day but there’s no exceptions.  The assembly might run after school a few minutes, so beware.  Thank you.”

Erin Backett watched confused as students kept piling into the auditorium.

The assembly was totally unplanned and unexpected.  Principle Talope seemed to be the only one who knew what was going on.
