Lost in Existence

Day 11

My eyes fluttered open, and I was temporarily shocked.

I was surrounded by nature, beautiful nature.

It was amazing here.

How could a world so beautiful be so cruel to one person?

The birds were chirping happily in my ears. The sunlight was brightly shining in my eyes. There was a slight breeze that smelled of flowers that caused light Goosebumps to appear on my arms.

Slowly, as if I was under a spell, I stood up and brushed myself off. I continued to gaze at the scene surrounding me. How did I even get here?

I walked forward to the nearest tree and rested my palm against its rough bark. Then, I knelt to the ground and ran my hand through the thick and overgrown grass. I laughed quietly as it tickled my hand.

Spotting a dandelion nearby I couldn’t it help as I leaned forward and plucked it from the grass.

I couldn’t help but stop as I thought about dandelions. It was silly, but I had the urge to blow the petals (A/N I don’t know what you call them. But I’m sure you’ve all probably done this once as a kid) off it and give a wish. I took a deep breath…

“I wish for death.”

I watched as the petals floated away into the wild, to fall and plant themselves into the ground and allow newer and fresher dandelions to grow and form.

“What am I doing?” I was suddenly pushed back into the present. Shaking my head at my foolishness, I stood up. Without a backwards glance, no matter how much I wanted one, I left the clearing.

But that just presented another problem. How did I find my way back to town?

With a long sigh and I started walking in a random direction.

I’d just have to wing it.

I collapsed on the sidewalk, grateful. I had been walking for hours on end, but when I had finally spotted civilization. The first thing I had come across was this sidewalk and I was so tired that I didn’t care if I was in anyone’s way.

I let my eyes fall closed for a bit, ready to take a short nap just here on the sidewalk when a voice prevented me from leaving consciousness.

“Are you alright Miss?”

I blinked my eyes open and looked at the man who was talking to me. He looked fairly young, but was definitely not in high school.

“I wouldn’t sit here on the sidewalk unless you’re hoping for a death sentence. There are some crazy drivers out here and some of them won’t care if you’re in their way.”

The guy had light brown hair and almond eyes. He was wearing a simple white T-shirt that was covered in grease, and as I looked pass him, I saw why. Apparently, he worked at a mechanics shop.

I wanted to reply with “What if I want to die?” but that would just cause trouble. So instead I found myself saying, “Oh yeah, you’re right. I’m just really tired. Sorry.” To me, my voice sounded so monotone, I sounded like an alien.

To my strong dislike, I picked myself up off the ground. I then began walking away, hopefully to some small corner or hole in a wall where I could curl up and sleep.

“Hey, do you need some help?”

I jumped in surprise at the closeness of his voice. “Nope. I’m good. Don’t need help with anything. Nothing’s wrong.”

Then, before he could reply I sprinted away, even though I could hear him calling after me. I didn’t need for him to pretend to pity me. It wouldn’t make me or him feel any better.

Sighing, I slowed my pass back down to a walk. For the first time since I stepped back into civilization, I took a look at my surroundings and I was surprised that I knew where I was.

I began to trek home, or at least to what I was suppose to call home.

I slammed my door closed and fell on my bed. Finally, I could take a nap...

Groaning, I remembered that I was supposed to get something done today.

I leaned over the side of my bed and pulled out a plastic shopping bag. I emptied its contents out onto the floor and went and also sat on the floor.

First I pulled out one of the pieces of paper I bought and an envelope. I reached for a nearby pen and starting writing.

After about fifteen minutes, I was done. I quickly addressed the envelope and put the paper inside. Next, I repeated the process, except writing different words and letters on the piece of paper and addressing the envelope to a different person.

After I had two closed envelopes sitting in front of me, I stared at the last thing on my agenda. I didn’t really want to do it. I didn’t want to leave a message for them. But I was going to anyways.

Slowly, I reached over and pressed record on the tape player.

“Many of you don’t know who I am... But some of you do... My name is Lucy, and this is my story.”

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++

So... Guess What... This is a new chapter...

I’m amazed, haha.

I’ve been really busy, and not to mention lazy and tired. Yesterday I spelt for 15 hours.

Song of the chapter: Beneath the Fall by My Satellite

Words: 871

The next chapter should be rather exciting and unexpected. Unless you’ve somehow guessed it... Hmm...
