It was dark all around in the middle of the woods. Barely a thing could be seen in the dimly lit surroundings, and anyone would know to stay out of the woods on a night like that. The moon was not present, yet there was a small handful of stars far off in the zenith of the sky.

Sounds were abundant, yet silent in nature. The call of a lone coyote, or the screech of a barn owl searching for it's prey. The sounds indicated that the woods were alive.

Living meant movement, and movement there was. A small mouse scurried through the underbrush to escape it's nightly predators, several bats fluttered about in their pursuit of bugs, and a gurgling stream could be seen bubbling along in the distance.

Everything seemed ordinary, yet there was one thing out of place.

A small figure sat amidst the bushes near the stream, checking it's surroundings for any signs of life. It looked up, and stood to attention at the snap of a twig far off. A smile flickered over the creature's pale features, and it dashed silently off to find the source of the slight noise.

The dim starlight barely illuminated the creature's face, yet one could tell it was almost human. The only thing that wasn't human about it, was the sharp set of fangs that took the place of normal human canine teeth... and the ruby red eyes.

The small creature could obviously be categorized as some sort of vampire, and he took pride in his predatory ways. Many a human had fallen to the fearsome beast, devoured only for their blood. In human standards, he was adorable and innocent looking. But that was just to lure victims in, and he had gotten many meals from people being lured in by his looks alone.

His mannerisms however, were another story. They were a whole other thing alltogether, and lured people more readily than his looks. People were drawn to his charismatic personality. His willingness to strike up a conversation. Most of all, his kind and endearing nature.

These were the tools he was born with in order to survive, and he utilized them whenever he got the option. He was certainly not ashamed of how he was, yet sometimes felt pangs of lonliness.

It wasn't often that he could talk with another vampire, and getting close to a human was out of the question. He longed to love, and be loved in return, a thing most vampires didn't feel. In the rare case that a vampire did feel that way, said vampire would die of heartbreak in a matter of months or even weeks unless they found someone to direct their love at.

This vampire, Tino, didn't intend to die. He had worked too hard to get strong, and wasn't going to leave the world because of some stupid feelings that weren't even aimed at anyone! He was going to work even harder to gain more power, and push his longings aside.

Well there he was, creeping through the bushes at a fast pace, hunting down the thing that had snapped the twig. He dashed into a small clearing, and stopped, listening intently for any noise.

In the brief moment that he paused, he was tackled to the ground from behind, and pinned down by an unseen force. He struggled, making hissing noises and attempting to injure his attacker. The struggle lasted for several minutes, before something heavy hit him hard in the head and he fell unconcious.

Tino woke several hours later with a throbbing headache. He winced, and surveyed his surroundings. The little vampire seemed to be in a bedroom on a cozy bed. There were soft blankets all around him, and there was a hint of the delicious scent of blood in the air. The lavish bed and furniture made Tino feel at home, despite the situation.

He glanced around one more time, then got out of the bed. That was when he realised that he was in nothing but a soft blue robe. His confusion only grew at the discovery, and he furrowed his brows. Someone had shown him kindness... even if their intentions had been harmful at first.

Nobody had ever gone out of their way to be that genuinely kind to him.

Of course, the meals he manipulated were nice... but what had just happened was different. As if in a trance, Tino padded towards the door of the room. He turned the handle, and stepped out into a long dark hallway. That was no worry though, for vampires had perfect night vision. He went onward, feeling small in the large hallway.

Presently, he reached a staircase descending downward into a pit of darkness. He quickly moved away from there, and decided to investigate some of the rooms in the hallway.

That was when he heard a door slam, the sound echoing throughout the vast open spaces. He jumped, and listened again for anything else. It was silent for a moment, then loud footsteps sounded from down the spiral staircase.

Tino turned tail and ran back to his room in a sudden fear. He hopped back in the bed, and hid under the covers. 'Dammit' He thought. 'You're supposed to be a fearless killer, Tino!'

Suddenly, the sound of footsteps grew louder, and Tino heard the door to his room open. He lay still, and hoped for the best... but apparently whomever it was wasn't fooled.

"You're shaking." The voice pointed out in a deep tone, heavily laden with a thick accent. "There's no need to be scared."

Tino stayed silent, wanting the person with the attractive voice to go away. But of course, that was wishful thinking.

The person walked over to the bedside, and sat on the edge of the bed. "I don't want to hurt you." It said, carefully patting the cover lump.

Tino knew that it was no use to resist any longer, and pushed his head out from under the covers with wide eyes. He looked over at the guy who had spoken, and surveyed his features. His face was well defined, with a strong jawline, and handsome features. His eyes were the same red as Tino's, showing that he too was a vampire... and his set of fangs were further proof. He looked serious, and kind of scary, so Tino flinched away from him.

The action seemed to hurt the other vampire, and he sighed. He averted his gaze to the wall for a moment, then looked back at Tino.

"I already said I won't hurt you." He announced once more, his tone patient and calm. "I just want to help you, and for you to maybe help me."

Tino was a bit interested, and tilted his head to the side in a silent question.

"W-Why am I here?" Was the first thing that came out of his mouth. His pale cheeks flushed with color, as vampires did in fact have blood.

"Because i'm going go die in a few weeks, if someone doesn't fall in love with me." The other vampire explained, looking Tino dead in the eye.

Tino was confused for a moment, then it hit him. The guy was in the same predicament as himself.
