8 First day of the job

A/N :: Hey buddies, I just want to make sure that I know that there was no chemistry in Amber and Damien's first meeting. But I have intentionally kept things that way coz Amber is still mourning and don't forget about our mystery girl, Miranda.

Neither is looking for anything but feelings will develop....slowly and who knows what happens next!! *winks*

AMBER'S POV

The next day I woke up around 5:30 in the morning. Jenny was still sleeping. So, I went for a quick shower and dressed myself in a simple full sleeved black coloured cotton dress with black leggings and flats, trying to be as quite as possible. Since there was no dress specifications, I thought that my dress would be fine. Fixing myself a quick breakfast of scrambled eggs and orange juice, I headed outside, but not before checking upon on my baby.

By the time, I stepped out, dad was back from his morning walk.

"Good morning dad. Jenny is still asleep. Do you think you both will be fine. Do you want me to fix you some breakfast before leaving. And promise that you will call me if Jenny troubles you?" I asked hugging him.

"Don't worry about us cupcake, we will spend some quality time together. And no I and Jenny will make breakfast together. And I promise I will call you if there is any problem. Now shoo, you don't want to be late on your first day"

Yesterday after the interview with Mr. Reed, I had come back home in the afternoon after a stop at Annie's. She had been happy that I got the job and asked me to call her or stop by if I needed any help with Jenny. Beth and Becca too had been pretty excited for me.

"So", Beth started, "how is Mr. Reed? Is he handsome, dashing, hot...come on come on, tell me fast. Is he as gorgeous as the media shows him to be? I still can't believe you landed a job with the Damien Reed, the CEO of D&D corp" she said fanning herself. Since yesterday, when Annie had told me about the job, Beth had been squealing and fangirling over Mr. Reed. Honestly, I could not make out what the big deal was.

"Beth" I sighed, not wanting to have this conversation. "He is my employer and that's about it. After the incidents of the past few days, I do not even want to think about anything such, I am not in a position to. I am not betraying Dylan's memories for anything. He was the best thing that happened to me and however short was our time together, nothing is going to replace that. Mr. Reed has been very generous with the pay and I do not want to lose my job"

I could see different emotions swirling in her eyes before she hugged me tightly.

"Okay my favourite ladies, let's celebrate your job" said Becca changing the topic and bringing us Annie's special home made choco chip cookies. And that's how we spend the rest of the afternoon.

When I reached home, I found my dad bouncing Jenny on his hip trying to calm her down. As soon as she saw me, she immediately demanded to be put down and crawled over to me with tears in her eyes and flushed face, wanting to be picked up.

"Aw why is my darling crying?" she tucked her face in the crook of my neck and continued crying. I turned towards dad questioning him silently. Seeing my baby crying was seriously freaking me out.

Dad simply sighed saying,"I don't know, she was sleeping peacefully when suddenly a cup fell from my hands and that probably scared her. She started crying and when I went to pick her up, she would not come to me. Perhaps, being away from you did not sit well with her and she has been crying since, although she has calmed a little"
