I stumbled out the same way I entered the facility, not even bothering to hide. I just walked through the compound in a daze, not realizing that there were currently men in uniforms running towards me. I was close to the same booth that was near the entrance of the whole goddamned facility.
I was already walking on the footpath, clinging to the fence as I went, ignoring the trail of officers behind me.
"Excuse me," one of them tried to grip my shoulder. I simply stopped walking and stared ahead in the distance. "What were you doing on our compound?" they tried asking me, but I remained silent. I wasn't thinking straight anyway. I just killed a man... boy.
"Sir, she isn't cooperating," one stated.
"Well then take her back to base. I think she's the one that caused all the commotion back there anyway." Take me back to base? I wasn't about to let that happen. I forcefully removed my shoulder from the officer's grasp and ran down the path, full speed.
"She's getting away!" they yelled, and I heard their footsteps echoing mine. I still felt demoralized as my feet carried me through the thick bushes. I couldn't concentrate on Smith's voice yelling through the earpiece. I'd just shot a man a few minutes ago, and my mind couldn't even register that.
Eventually, I found myself in the middle of a tarred road, and I saw pulses of light in the distance, so I followed it. I gazed over my shoulder, worry taking over as the armed officers came into view once more. I had to lose them... I thought.
I glanced into the dense forest that was on both sides of the road, running into it with a plan in mind. The leaves whipped my face.
"Where is she!" I heard a voice yell just a bit further back. I felt the vibrations of several feet thudding against the ground as they ran. Once I was sure I'd led them a good distance off the main road, I stopped abruptly, turning to face them as they came running my way one by one. They weren't able to see me properly though, as my dark clothes blended in perfectly with the midnight sky that lacked a bright moon.
I simply put one foot out, smiling to myself once one when down, tripping over my leg and colliding with the forest floor face first.
"She's here!" the fallen one yelled in fear. I snapped my head to meet his fear-struck eyes. I was sure he'd already memorized every feature of my face. I couldn't leave a loose thread. I pulled out my bow, pointing the arrow at him, but before I had a chance to let it go, I was pinned to the ground. I began to thrash around, trying to wiggle itself free from the weight that was on top of me.
"Sam, stop struggling," the weight spoke. I immediately recognized it as Smith. He pulled me to my feet, carrying me bridal style as he ran through the maze of trees, avoiding the officers as they aimlessly ran around. Soon, we were back on the main road, running to the lights once more, and before I knew it, we were approaching the van they'd use to drop me off.
Once Smith had both of us in, all doors were closed and we were traveling back to the pack as I dozed off.

"Is he dead?" I asked as I paced the Alpha's quarters. He simply leaned back in his chair, looking up at the ceiling. "Because I can deal with injured, or bruised, but not dead." Smith, on the other hand, was leaning against the door, his narrowed eyes trained on me. "What?" I asked once I couldn't take on his profound gaze anymore.
"You can't deal with dead?" he repeated. "Because, if I didn't show up that night, you'd have put an arrow straight through that man's face." The Alpha didn't say anything, nor did I. What could have I said when it was evident that he was speaking the truth.
"That man," I began. "Was the enemy." Smith grunted in response, shaking his head at my reasoning. He opened his mouth to retort, but a knock on the door prevented him from doing so.
"Come in," the Alpha called. The door creaked opened, and Gabriel peeked his head in timidly. "What is it, son?" He opened the door fully, revealing his whole appearance, which consisted of a simple black shirt and grey shorts.
"Gabriel, we're busy," Smith grumbled, his eyes still trained on me.
"I just wanted to know how the mission went," he replied. Smith sighed, turning to face him.
"This is a grown-up meeting."
"She's not a grown-up; I'm older than her," he said, pointing to me.
"She's part of the operation."
"Smith, just let him in," the Alpha interjected. "If he's going to be the future leader of the park, he might as well know our alliances and foes. Just give him a summary of what happened."
"Very well then. Sam possibly killed a man, and had intentions on killing another," Smith bluntly stated, causing Gabriel's eyes to go wide.
"I love the way you're so discreet," I deadpanned, rolling my eyes.
"Where the hell are your emotions?" he asked. "Did I just train a sociopath?"
"None of this matters. The real thing is that she got proof that they're doing some unlicensed research on humans, and now we can take them down," the Alpha replied, standing all of a sudden. He reached a hand out to me, but I just stared at it baffled.
"Um, Samantha, you're supposed to shake it," Gabriel smirked. Smith pressed his lips into a thin line and then exited the room. Alpha Wyatt chuckled, his chestnut orbs landing on me.
"We're going to ambush them soon. You don't have to come if you don't want to. You've done your part already." I simply nodded, not sure whether I wanted to go or not. I'd already left my mother on a bad note, so I needed to go home and fix that. Show her how I'd come back alive and prove my ability to carry out dangerous missions.
