I laid on Paige's bed and opened a bottle of coke she brought from the fridge. I raised an eyebrow when she walked into the room with her hair a completely different color. I did observe it when I stopped by her house earlier but I decided not to comment until she and I were in the privacy of her room.

She buried her face in a pillow while I continued to drink the coke, waiting for her to turn over and face me. It wasn't until I cleared my throat that she turned with a grim look.

"Care to explain?" I asked, eyeing her raven hair. She threw me a look before pulling a beanie off her nightstand and pulling it over her head.

"I don't want to talk about it. And besides, there's nothing to explain." My brows went further up my head once I realized her mouth was saying one thing, but her eyes were saying something else.

"You don't have to lie to me. We tell each other everything," I told her, reaching for my phone in back pocket, grimacing as the name 'Dale' lit up my screen. I quickly shoved it back into my pocket, forcing a smile on my features as she looked me puzzled.

"Who was that?"

"No one important," I quickly replied.

"So much for telling each other everything," she grumbled, leaning unto her bed frame. I rolled my eyes at her, knowing that if I told her what was really going, I'd lose her for good. I couldn't let that happen. I wouldn't let that happen. I crawled up the bed, leaning against the bed frame beside her.

"I know certain signs when I see them," I whispered softly, knowing that her mother and stepfather were downstairs and could have easily heard us if they tried. Paige's biological was killed in combat, him being the part of the warrior when we were just kids. "And I know that when us teenage girls dye our hair another color, especially black, it means rebellion... or simply sadness." Paige squirmed in her spot, breaking eye contact with me.

"So what's your point," she snapped, not in my direction, but I knew it was meant for me.

"My point? There is no point. I just think there's something bothering you, and I know damn well that it has nothing to with school. It's coming from here." I winced internally once I saw a small tear traveling down Paige's cheek. She quickly wiped it away, sniffling as she sunk deeper into the bed.

"He's so mean," she whispered so softly, it was barely audible.

"Who?" I asked. I took a wild guess, and it almost pained me to ask it. "Your stepfather?" She didn't reply, she just nodded, burying her face in my arms. I rubbed her back gently, comforting her in any way I could. I opened my mouth to say something when suddenly I was interrupted by a loud blaring noise. It was the loud alarm the pack usually sounded when there was danger near.

"Paige?" Paige's mom called from downstairs. We both shared a look before we opened her bedroom door and ran down the stairs. Paige's mom immediately hugged her, giving her a quick kiss on the forehead. "I think you should go to your mom," she told me. I quickly agreed and bolted out the door, running down the dirt road, only to collide with the one person I was trying to avoid.

"Sam!" he breathed, seeming scared and relieved at the same time.

"What are you doing out here Dale? Didn't you hear the alarm?" I glared.

"Yes, but the Alpha sent me to call you. It's very important," he panted. Apparently, he ran a long way. He quickly turned on my heels, beckoning me to follow. I didn't question it, I just followed him back to the Alpha's quarters. I burst through the doors of his office, revealing a terrified Alpha, a worried Gabriel, and Smith sitting there, rubbing his temples with a weary look.

"What's wrong?"I asked, breathless.

"You need to see this," Smith replied, getting up from where he was with a remote in his hands. He pointed it to a large screen with it and soon the screen lit up with a very angry looking man with some unknown person's head covered with a sack. "Hopefully, this would explain to you how much you fucked up."

"Smith," Alpha growled.

"What's this?" I asked.

"Just watch it. It came in earlier this afternoon," Alpha Wyatt replied, coming over to place his hands on my shoulders. Smith pressed the play button.

"Greetings! No, I shouldn't even start this politely. Fuck all of you bastards. You think your little operation didn't go unnoticed!" the man started, baring his teeth at us, his canines getting longer as his anger intensified. "You people had the audacity to come on my property and have a fucking wimpy human snoop around on my grounds! And here's the worst part, she put a fucking bullet through my son's head!"

"Who is this guy?" I asked pointing at the screen.

"That's the Alpha of the pack we sent you to spy on," Smith replied.

"Well guess what, I'm going to find all of you, and skin all of you alive! I have a surprise for you though." He tugged at the sack, covering the person's head. He grinned evilly before he pulled the sack off, allowing a loud gasp to escape my lips.

"Mom!" I cried.

"Let this woman be an example to all you fuckers. If you think you could just come and destroy my work, I'm destroying one of your pack members."  A gun emerged from his hands, pointing to her head, and all I could do was stare as my mother pleaded for her life, tears streaming down her face. I closed my eyes for a split-second, hoping that Alpha would just pause it, and reveal it to be some sick prank... but it wasn't.

And then... he pulled the trigger.

Awkward silence... *clears throat*. Just comment and vote, and it'll make it all better. Read my other books if this is too depressing for you. I doubt that'd change it though. All my books have someone dying in the end so...
