Picture of Dale Ghome

The night was perfect.
There was no other way to explain it. The way the beads of light hung unto the wires, illuminating the water in the lake, almost made it inviting. It was the same lake Paige and I were at earlier this afternoon. It was a famous lake that everyone enjoyed and a popular attraction to outsiders. The pack took great efforts to make it something very visual, warm and inviting, and it sure was.
We all knew that the water was close to freezing so no one dared to take a dive like we usually did during the summer. Strangely the sand was as warm as ever so no one decided to leave their shoes on.
Pop music played not too loudly in the background. Some people were swaying to the beat at a steady pace, others were laughing boisterously and some were busy chatting. I stood close to the shore, staring at the moon as it seemed to connect with the sheer mountains in the distance. It was a phenomenal sight.
Needless to say that I thought tonight was going to be wild, with half-naked people running around, wild music blaring out through speakers and alcohol being served exclusively. Apparently, I was wrong and I couldn't have been happier.
"Ah, the one person I've been looking for," a familiar voice said from behind me. I swiftly turned around to come face-to-face with Dale. He looked stunning dressed in his dark colors which complimented his dark chocolate eyes as they focused on me.
I smiled shyly in his direction and in return received a wide grin. I never really took the time to observe his facial features and now it was becoming clear why Paige was so interested in him... well almost every girl that laid their eyes on him.
His dark curls were of full volume on his head, giving him an innocent yet boyish look. I don't know if that made sense. I opened my mouth to say something but was startled by a loud squeal. Paige stumbled to my side, staring at Dale with her jaw slightly dropping. Oh no.
"Dale, this is Paige... Paige, this is Dale," I said, trying to make the situation seem as normal as humanly possible. I wasn't sure what Dale would think if he knew that Paige dreamed of him every night.
"I know who he is," she snapped and inched closer to us, flipping her sallow hair over her shoulders. "We should meet up sometime." I could have sworn I saw her wink, but he didn't seem to notice. If anything, he eagerly agreed, much to my surprise. Maybe Paige's dreams would officially come true. I felt smug.
"Sure. Sam would you care to join?" he asked turning to me. From the corner of my eyes I could have seen Paige pouting, maybe glaring, so I did the best thing any best-friend would do.
"Oh no, I wouldn't want to intrude," I said, trying to put on the best convincing smile. I seriously didn't want to get involved in a love triangle.
"Yes, that's probably the best idea," Paige piped in excitedly. Dale raised an amused eyebrow at her and was about to reply when some boys from a distance called to him.
"I have to go," he said. "But we will definitely meet up. I'll invite some other friends... you too Sam." And he walked off. I stared at his retreating figure and tried my best to ignore Paige as she gaped at me.
"Since when did he start calling you Sam?" she huffed, crossing her arms over her chest. I almost rolled my eyes at her for getting worked up so quickly. It was cute at times, but tonight, it was irritating, especially when I knew I was trying to bring out some benefits from this for her.
"Are you drunk?" I could have smelt the alcohol off her as she stood so close to me, obviously trying to intimidate me. How could Paige even get drunk, from a party that barely had any alcohol?
She probably drank all they had. Besides, she hadn't found her wolf either, so she was basically a human for now.
"I'm not!"
"Yes, you are."
"Okay, I may have had some beers but that's not the point." I shook my head and pushed her aside, heading towards the refreshment table. She was in no state to have a stable conversation.
"Sam, you can't ignore me like that," she slightly slurred from behind me. Okay, she wasn't drunk. Just a bit tipsy.
"Ignore you?" I asked, pretending to be confused.
"You didn't answer my question."
"Paige, everyone calls me Sam. Besides, it doesn't matter," I snapped turning to face her. The irritation was growing.
"How could you say that. Everything about Dale matters to me," she whined. I sighed.
"I know, you've made that quite obvious."
"Then..." She stopped abruptly as a noise came from the back of my throat, evolving into a growl. "Did you just growl at me?" she gasped. I didn't know what to tell her, so I just stared startled. I mean, it was strange that I was able to let out a growl when I couldn't even transform into something that had fur. She shook her slowly and stared at me. "You do realize this is great news?" I was still speechless. "Can you do it again?" I shook my head no. "Well, I might just have to get on your nerves more often."
