Derek walked out the door, his son following after him, leaving us there in the dimly lit hut. I sat on the wooden, cold, damp floor, speechless with Gabriel standing not far behind. He hadn't uttered a word ever since the two left. I held my head down and pinched my nose bridge.

It all began to make sense now. Gabriel's mother wasn't dead, and my father wasn't long lost. They were out there somewhere, having a jolly good, fucking time. I clenched my fists at my side. Why did bad things always happen to good people, and good things never ceased to come to the evil ones? I pondered on that question so much, that I even felt a small migraine was developing.

I felt a hand on my shoulder, snapping me out of my thoughts.

"Samantha, come on." I peeled my eyes away from my hands, and slowly brought them to meet Gabriel's chocolate eyes. They etched mine; filled with enmity and a little bit of sadness. "We need to go." I slowly got to my my feet, and placed my hand in his. We walked across the room, and out the door. Outside was still dark, just the way we left it, although the time had seemed to pass much faster. Derek had just disappeared into the night.

I could have heard the shouting from far off, knowing that there was still a disturbance of some sort in the distance.

"If he wants revenge, then he's going behind our pack," I said to myself, but Gabriel heard. Surprisingly, he didn't seem too fazed. Rather, he took a deep breath, released my hand and turned to face me completely.

"We should leave," he said, rather firmly. I grimaced. "And never come back."

"Leave?" I repeated. "Gabriel, we can't just go."

"What is there left for the both of us?" he asked. "Your mom is dead, your father is out there somewhere... and so is my mom. Who knows, we might be able to find them if we leave, rather than just stay here with people that don't seem to really care." He let out a dark chuckle at the end.

"What about your father?" I asked. He closed his eyes, not saying anything. Leaving us in uncomfortable silence for a while.

"He can take care of himself." He didn't seem too sure with himself but was so eager to run off into the unknown. I brought myself back to the days when things hadn't come to this. Doing so, I remembered Dale and Paige. I couldn't just leave without telling Paige something. And if Derek's wad of people dared to cross on our territory, she and the others were bound to be in trouble.

But was it worth all the trouble of going back? Were Gabriel and I even destined to be somehow romantically involved? What exactly was I getting myself into? Why am I asking myself all these questions?

Of course, this had nothing to do with him. The key concept was seeing my father again. And I was pretty sure his driving force was his mother too. I was willing to leave all of what I had here to go out there. I glanced at the dimly lit forest. I finally looked at him and nodded.

"I knew you'd say yes," he stated with a sad smile and pulled us deeper into the forest. Leaving all the chaos behind us, and we crossed over small shrubs and dead leaves, into the dark night, searching for whatever light was to come in the morning.
