Alexis's POV
The other NAs and I were all required to be awake by 7 and at 8, we were all in the new training room waiting to meet our mentors. Simon stood next to me, his hand in mine.
The door on the other side slid open and I squeezed his hand tightly in anxiety.
In walked 5 people in hero costumes. I quickly recognized Captain Marvel from the day before, her hair was down by her sides and she wore her yellow, blue and red costume. Next to her stood Hummingbird, her blonde hair put up in a high ponytail. Beside her was an African American hero I didn't recognize. Next was the hero was Soldier, his red hair ruffled, followed by Coulson.
"Kids! Meet your mentors!" Coulson stated taking a step forward, "Chey. You will be with Agent Barton!" Hummingbird nodded and did a follow me motion with her hand, Chey quickly listened and left the room with her mentor.
"Elizabeth you're with Amaka," Coulson continued. The women named Amaka smiled at Liz before the two left the room.
"Simone, you're with me still. We have to finish your training," Coulson reported before looking at Sam, "Sam you're with James Rogers, good luck."
They all left the room leaving me and the Captain in the room.
"We'll be holding our sections in here," she stated as she walked over, "Your powers are a little uncontrollable and this is the most fortified room in the building and the only one with depowers," She explained.
"Alright," I responded.
She looked at me for an instant, but none more and never made eye contact with me.
"First I want to see what you can do," she stated.
"What?"
"I want to see what you can do. Everything I do you should be able to do," she responded before lifting into the air and flying up to the ceiling.
I watched her before taking in a deep breath and jumping off the ground forcing myself into the air. I managed to get a good 3 feet above the ground before falling back to the ground.
"AH!" I exclaimed as I hit the floor.
"Come on! You can do it! Just think about being weightless! Think about the wind lifting you up, think about being above everything! Having total control over where you go! Just... fly," she stated trying to explain to me how to join her, "Just don't let anything hold you down."
I nodded taking in another breath before stretching myself up towards the sky I slowly lifted myself off the ground finally feeling free once my toes left the ground. I slowly climbed my way up to her.
"Good. That's it," she encouraged.
I took in another breath feeling a burst of energy fill me. I lifted up higher, this time with so much more ease.
"You've got it," she beamed.
I opened my eyes not realising that I had closed them in the first place. I looked at her our blues eyes locking.
She smiled slightly, for the first time ever I saw her smile.
"Now let's see how long you can stay up and what you can do," she stated before flying across the room.
I flew over to her slowly making sure I didn't fly past her and crash into the wall.
"Trouble breaking?" she asked raising an eyebrow.
"Uh... ya. I don't exactly have an airbag here to stop me," I joked lightly.
She chuckled lightly, a smiling once again appearing on her face.
I started laughing with her.
"Alright. Enough joking. Let's continue," she sighed.
"I'm sorry.... my humor doesn't have a brake, much like my flying ability right now," I joked.
She laughed again and I laughed with her... well until the ground beneath me suddenly left.
I dropped down towards the ground a scream leaving my mouth as the ground came closer.
"ALEXIS!" Captain Marvel screamed bolting down and catching me before I hit the ground. She set me down and automatically checked over me much like a mother would.
"Are you alright!?" she panicked.
"I'm fine... Just a little shaken up," I replied.
"Thank god I caught you... You can't lose focus when you're flying. Later on? Maybe you can, but right now you don't have the ability to subconsciously fly, that takes practice Alexis..." she warned, worry hidden in her voice.
I nodded and bit the skin of my lower lip, a nasty habit I had.
"Good. Now don't bit your lip, that's a bad habit."
