*A/N: WARNING! SWEARING AHEAD!

Hey guys,

I have a stupid question to ask, do you know what a cover is, as in a song cover, hence the rant title? According to Wikipedia (I hate Wikipedia, but it was the first thing that popped up), "In popular music, a cover version or cover song, or simply cover, is a new performance or recording of a previously recorded, commercially released song by someone other than the original artist or composer." I love covers, possibly more than I love the originals. The reason I bring this up is because I hate some of the YouTube comments about one of my favorite artists. As I say, "to each his own," but some of the comments are seriously stupid. Honestly, why do I even bother going on YouTube?! Oh yeah, because my phone is dead and all my music is on there.

The reason I bring up song covers is, like I said, because some of the comments are just super stupid. But as I said before "to each his own" and everyone is entitled to their opinions. So, I understand covers as... different takes of a song that's not theirs (the cover artist). It's a song taken from the cover artist's point of view with their own feelings and their own events playing in their heads. That's also how I look at music- poetry about personal emotions and/or events  that are unique to that person. But, for some reason, people don't understand what the fudge a cover means. The comments I read are about how this person's voice is "too soft" and "boring" and just "not good" at all. I think that's a load of bull.

This person did a cover of "Chandelier" by Sia. If anyone has ever heard Sia sing, then you know there is no one like her. Her voice is impossibly powerful and she can reach high notes like no one's business. Sorry if you don't like Sia, I've only listened to a handful of her songs. So for the cover artist to do a song by Sia and actually have the guts to publish it then I give them major props... Okay, maybe my thoughts are a little scrambled here.

The reason this is a rant is because some people just don't understand that covers are meant to sound different from the original song. They're supposed to have a different sound, different breaks, and, sometimes, be in a completely different time (4/4 VS 7/8, whatever). So to judge someone based off the fact that the cover song is different from the original is just... ridiculous! It's a freaking cover for a reason. But what peeves me the most is when I check out a person's YT channel and there's NOTHING! There is nothing to give them credit about why they're such "great" judges of the music world. There are no videos of them posting their own music or their own covers, it's just them making stupid butt comments. So I don't know where they get off on saying someone has no talent.

*Calm J, Happy J*

Sorry, needed to take a breather.

I have no problem with people sharing their opinions in the comments. In fact, I encourage it, I always do. But when someone starts getting rude about it, that's when I'm just like, "Hell no!" People should give constructive criticism, not hate.

Okay, I'm done.

Thanks guys, I needed that.

Until the next rant,

J
