"Prisoners of the Ark, hear me now."
Chancellor Jaha's voice sounded over the radio system of the Dropship. His tired face lighting up on all the screens through the ship. There was a chorus of snickers from around the room. It was no secret that everyone hated him. He was the reason most of the prisoners were there in the first place.
"You've been given a second chance, and as your Chancellor, it is my hope that you see this as not just a chance for you, but a chance for all of us, indeed for mankind itself. We have no idea what is waiting for you down there. If the odds of survival were better, we would've sent others. Frankly, we're sending you because your crimes have made you expendable."
Brigid closed her eyes harshly, way to pull the bandage off gently. They were sending them down to die. One of the prisoners from behind her shouted, "Your dad is a dick, Wells." And low and behold, she turned her head to find the Chancellor's son sitting beside Clarke. Clarke looked irritated by his presence, wanting nothing more but a lightyear of distance between the two of them. Brigid had heard all about Wells and his betrayal. Which caused her to hate him too. Her mother was dead, and it was all his fault. Clarke's blue eyes caught Brigid's and she gave her a tight smile.
"Did you hear that?" Nate spoke from beside her, breaking her from her gaze with the blonde and turning back around in her seat. She glanced over her shoulder one last time before refocusing on her oldest friend. "Hear what?"
Nate leaned back in his seat, stretching his legs out in front of him. "Our slates are going to be wiped clean. We'll be free again, no more locked cages or bread crumbs and water. We will be able to live our lives." He was wearing a huge grin on his face, which caused Brigid to return one. Happiness. It was something she never thought she'd be able to see again. His dark eyes snapped to her, "Maybe this won't be as bad as we thought."
She leaned to the side, rested her head on his shoulder, "Maybe not."
They both focused back on the television where the chancellor was still speaking. "The drop site has been chosen carefully. Before the last war, Mount Weather was a military bade built within a mountain. It was to be stocked with enough non-perishables to sustain 300 people for up to two years."
"Spacewalk bandit strikes again. Go, Finn!" Brigid and Nate turned around to see a long haired boy floating over towards Wells. He was leaning back with her arms folded across his chest. "Check it out," He spoke to Wells, "Your dad floated me, after all."
Brigid coughed up a laugh watching the interaction. She had to admit that Finn had balls, talking to the chancellor's son like that. Clarke yelled at two other boys who were trying to follow in the spacewalker's footsteps, and she heard Miller unhook his seatbelt from beside her. She whipped her head around, grabbing his arm and stopping him. "What do you think you're doing?"
Miller raised his eyebrows, "Having a little fun." The ship began to rumble a bit and it started to shake, yanking Miller back. Brigid's eyes widened, "Strap back in! Now!"
He did as he was told before the lights flickered and the ship began to pick up speed towards the ground. There was a loud bang from behind them and the redhead's eyes snapped shut, reaching out for Nate's hand and squeezing it tightly. The ship kept moving faster and faster until there was a loud crash and silence echoed throughout the ship. Someone across the aisle, sitting against the wall spoke up, "Listen. No machine hum."
Brigid's bright blue eyes fluttered open slowly, glancing around at everyone who were just as confused as she was. Her eyes landed on Jasper as he replied to his friend beside him, "Whoa. That's a first."
