Flashback - Two Years Ago

Brigid carefully ran through the halls of the Ark, certain not to obtain unwanted attention. It was way past curfew for the minors, but she needed to get there. Her large combat boots pounded against the tile as she turned the corner, but saw a guard standing outside of a family complex. She pushed herself back against the wall, sneaking her head around the corner to watch what was happening.

She kept her eyes trained on the older guard, his hair was gray and he nervously rubbed the back of his head. A dark haired woman stood in front of him, blocking the doorway with crossed arms. Her gray robe was worn out and dull. Brigid noted that she was definitely on the factory station. Factory Station was one of the lower class stations, filled with the poorer and less fortunate families.

Suddenly, a young man pushed the woman and the guard apart, storming out of the apartment. He had shaggy brown hair that was styled back off of his forehead. Tanned skin with countless freckles lining his face. Dark brown eyes that were narrowed into a glare as he kept walking away from the room. The woman started following him, running her hand down her tired face. "Come back. Bellamy, pelase come back," She begged, tugging on her son's arm.

He turned around, a saddened expression on his face, "I can't sit back and watch him use you like this. It's not fair."

"Life isn't fair, honey," She whispered back, caressing his cheek lightly. Brigid thought she could see a glimmer of happiness in Bellamy's eyes when he thought his mother was agreeing with him. But it all vanished away once her mouth opened again, "I have to do this. You understand that, right?"

And with that Bellamy stormed away from her again. When he turned the corner, he saw Brigid standing there with her back against the wall and widened eyes. Bellamy's jaw clenched and he flexed his hand into a fist for a moment, "How much of that did you hear?"

Brigid shook her head, allowing the red hair to fall into her blue eyes and a thin line replaced her usual smirk. "None, I didn't hear any of it." Bellamy narrowed his eyes on her for a second before nodding his head and walking away from her. Brigid let her eyes flutter shut and her heart was beating out of her chest. As she continued her walk to her step brother's room, she passed by the Blake's apartment. She could hear what was going on inside the room. She could hear what Bellamy's mother was doing and why he was so upset. Granted, she had no idea why his mother would be shagging an older guard. But she wasn't one to judge. She just felt bad for the family.

She shook her head sadly, "Life isn't fair."

The mountain was growing closer and closer as they kept walking deeper into the forest. Finn randomly broke the silence that haunted them for the past hour since they encountered the mutated deer. "Hey, you know what I'd like to know? Why send us down today after ninety seven years? What changed?"

"Who cares?" Octavia announced bluntly, gaining the attention of everyone around her as she walked past them. She wrapped her hand around a tree stump and turned around to look at everyone, "I woke up rotting in a cell and now I'm spinning in a forest." She dramatically spun around the tree, trying desperately to catch Finn's attention but he just kept walking by her. She huffed out an annoyed sigh as Jasper and Brigid caught up to her.

Jasper glanced at Brigid, "Maybe they found something on a satellite, you know." He looked over at Octavia, "Like an old satellite or-

But he was cut off by Clarke storming past everyone and heading down the hill with a quick pace, "It wasn't a satellite." Brigid raised an eyebrow at her blonde friend before shrugging her shoulders at Jasper, who gave her a confused look in return. Clarke kept walking ahead of them, "The Ark is dying."
