"Got everything?"

I place my hunting duffle bag and backpack in the trunk of the black impala. I turn to Sam who holds the trunk open and give him a nod in answer.

I take a step back and Sam closes the trunk. I turn back to my dad who stands watching from the hood of the car.

I can't tell if he's worried or frustrated or anxious, but as I head over to him to say good bye, he gives me his confident smile, and I know he'll be okay with me leaving.

"You go kick some ass out there, you hear?"

He pulls me in for a hug and I breathe in the familiar scent that reminds me of home. "Dang right I will."

I pull away and almost immediately get stepped on my a pushy Zeke. He knows exactly what's happening.

Zeke jumps up and puts his front paws on the shoulders of my leather jacket. He licks my face and I scratch him behind the ears one last time.

"Fuss, boy," I command in German. He immediately drops down onto his four paws and sits at my feet. I smile down at him.

I'm going to miss him as much as I'll miss my dad. He's saved my life countless times on hunts, and I would surely be dead without him. He has been on every single hunt with me since I deemed him prepared enough to face what I've trained him for; now hunting without him just feels out of place.

I break the eye contact I've been holding with Zeke and glance up, taking a quick glance. Letting out a breath, I turn to Dean.

"Okay, I think I'm ready."

"Alright," Dean says, walking over to the drivers side of the impala. "Let's get this show on the road."

Sam heads to the passenger side and I open the back door on the drivers side. I smile at my dad and Zeke who stand side by side a couple feet away.

"Don't forget to feed him. I'd like him to be alive and functioning when I get back," I say motioning to Zeke. My dad just laughs and gives a slight eye roll.

I get into the back seat and close the door. Buckling myself in, Dean starts the engine, revving it a few times.

As we head down the old dirt road, dust flies up, disturbing the still cool morning air. Even as the clock shows that it is only eight-forty in the morning, I've never felt more alive.

Dean's POV:

Once we hit the road, Jackie and Sam started casual conversation while I had the radio playing softly in the background.

Jackie was certainly one to know. For someone who is known for shooting a deathly weapon and has that bad girl ring to her name, once you meet her, her personality changes that whole image.

Seeing her on that porch for the first time, I couldn't help but have the thought of how a girl with such a soft face could live the life of a hunter.

I guess every hunter grows up the same way despite what any physical differences may say.

"But yeah," I hear Jackie finish. "I trained Zeke to recognize scents of most of the supernatural creatures I've hunted. He hunts with my dad and I all the time. I guess it'll be wierd not to hunt with him for once."

"Well, you've got us." I send her a wink through the rear view mirror and she just laughs.

"By the way, Dean." She pats the seat she's sitting on. "Nice ride."

Damn right it is.

"See Sammy, there's a girl with a taste in rides. No one messes with Baby."

"Dean, it's a car." I see Sam roll his eyes and I automatically turn the radio up, blaring the beginning of Sweet Home Alabama.

Sam groans but Jackie simply whacks him on the shoulder. "Aw come on, live a little."

We let the music take over as the miles fly by. Before we know it, we've crossed over into Iowa and make decent time.

Daylight fades into dusk and soon the only light comes from the impala's headlights and the clock on the dashboard.

Sam has long since passed out and behind me, Jackie leans against the window watching the endless amounts of land fly by.

Getting a good look at her, I realize she looks nothing like the average hunter would look.

Her long and wavy brown hair flows down past her shoulders while her blue eyes reflect the scarce light that comes from the moon in the sky. If I would have come across her in any other situation other than to join her on a hunt, I would have easily taken her for a pretty, young girl with a full life ahead of her.

But I guess I'd be mistaken- no one in this line of work has a single shred of innocence or any hopes for a long, happy life.

I guess what bothers me is how she is able to appear so innocent, despite this.

Bobby briefly told us her mother had died when she was young and how her father wasn't the easiest man to live with. Surely she's seen and has been through things a girl shouldnt have to.

But how would she do it then? Live with such a happy facade?

I intend to find out.
