Deans's POV
As soon as I hear my name called from the room below me, my hand reaches out and grabs my gun from off of the night stand. My feet hit the floor, not even bothered by the freezing surface as I run out of the room and down the stairs.
Every bit off tiredness falls off my face when I see her standing there in her T-shirt and jeans. I thought everything would be fine- I was even happy for that split second when the thought of her finally being awake, standing up even, crossed my mind.
But that all went away once I saw a glint of light reflect off a pistol.
"Jackie? Hey, what are you doing?" I say shaken and confused. I thought she would look up at me, look me in the eyes with her tear stained face, but instead she glares out in front of her at nowhere in particular.
I turn to Sam, panicking for the first time in a good while. "She's crying- Why is she crying? What is she doing?"
"Jackie, what are you doing?"
Bobby's voice breaks out behind Sam and I. Sam turns to him exasperated but I don't, scared that if both of us turned our backs and took our eyes off her, Jackie would pull the trigger.
"She can't hear us, she's dreaming or hallucinating or something. She just woke up and came upstairs like this!" Sam yells, his nerves getting the best of him.
"No! Stop it!" I jump at her voice, not expecting it at all. But I also didn't expect this to even be happening. Cas said removing the grace was supposed to have fixed this problem. Clearly, it's only made it worse.
"Jackie! Wake up!" Getting frustrated, I walk towards her, around the couch and to the desk where she stands.
When I'm only five feet away, her finger moves over the trigger. Her arm shakes in the slightest of ways, giving away her nerves.
"Make it stop," she cries one last time.
Then she pulls it.
I jump, flinching away. I wait for the dreaded thump on the floor, the sound of her body dropping as I stand there in complete silence, but it never comes.
Only then do I realize that instead of a solid shot ringing out, only an almost nonexisting click sounds.
The safety was on.
I lunge forward and grasp the gun, just as her left hand reaches over to load the barrel. It's when my hand wraps around the barrel of the gun and I when shove it down towards the floor, that the delayed shot finally rings out.
Jackie's body jolts and her eyes widen in terror. She jumps backwards away from me, stumbling. My grip on her shooting arm doesn't let loose, and before she can fall to the floor, I hold her up, pulling her body towards me.
As I lean against Bobby's desk, Jackie's limp stature starts to shake, shuddering as she tries to catch her breath with deep inhalations. A thud sounds out when she drops the gun on the floor, moving her grip to hold onto my arm that is secured around her.
I let out a shaky breath and lower my chin in exhaustion onto Jackie's shoulder. "It's okay."
In the entryway I see Bobby and Sam standing in utter shock in the dim light. Bobby looks stressed, probably coming across the realization himself that the plan that Cas had made wasn't working. Sam, on the other hand, leans against the doorframe, with his right hand over his left bicep.
It's then that I remember that a bullet was actually shot, and it wouldn't take a genius to know what happened.
"Sam, you okay?" I ask him quietly.
He shakes his head slightly and stands up from leaning on the wall. "Yeah, fine. Just a graze, I think."
Bobby comes marching into the room and practically tears Jackie from my grip. She goes with the movement and lets Bobby take her into a tight hold.
"What the hell do you think you were doing?" He accuses, heartbroken and holding on to her. The intention of never letting her go again is written clearly on his face.
She stutters out a simple "I don't know," too shocked to further elaborate. She stays quiet until her eyes land on Sam. He still stands alone in the entryway, holding his t-shirt sleeve over the bullet-grazed skin of his arm.
She then turns to me, where I had just bent down to pick up the pistol Jackie had had in her grasp. I remove the remaining bullets and click the safety back on for good measures. Her eyes flicker from the gun to Sam, then back to the gun before stepping forcefully out of Bobby's grip over to Sam.
"Sam, oh my god." One hand covers her mouth while the other floats helplessly in front of her as she decides whether or not to reach out and see how bad it really is.
"Jackie it's okay, it's just a graze. See?" Sam reassures. "I'm fine."
"No you're not! I could've killed you," she argues, refusing to believe her actions were any sort of acceptable.
"Jackie, I'm fine." Sam shakes his head at her, trying to get her to understand.
"I shot you. You're not okay!" She yells out, exasperated.
She leaves the room in a rush and returns just as quickly with a wad of gauze and other supplies. She moves Sam down onto the couch and Bobby and I watch as he helplessly accepts her care.
Over her shoulder I see that the wound was, in fact, just a graze. There was blood, enough to make it appear that it was much worse, but the bullet did not stay in the skin. Sam would be as good as new in a few days.
With her sitting next to Sam, Bobby and I watch as she begins to fumble with the bandages, hands shaking. I share a concerned look with Sam who sits next to her, not sure of what exactly he should do.
Sam settles for clearing his throat. "Jackie," he whispers.
He lightly places a hand over hers, stopping her from struggling any further.
Jackie let's out a frustrated breath before dropping her shoulders and laying her head in her hands.
"It didn't work."
She tosses a bundle of wrap onto the couch, abandoning it as she stands up. Frustrated, she takes a pace through the room. She stops behind the couch, balling her hands into fists before kicking the back of the couch.
"It was all for nothing."
