Mikey's POV
I sighed as I signed yet another piece of paper for this company's expansion. Apparently  being based in Sydney and having a few offices in America wasn't enough. Now, we were trying to expand into major parts of London, and while my uncle wanted three office in the city; I argued that one would be plenty. My eyes went wide as I heard the emergency alarm go off and the red lights flashed through the building. I relaxed knowing it was probably just being tested like the system is every month. I just hoped it hadn't scared Blair too much. In fact, I should probably go check on her.
Almost as soon as I had walked around my desk, my assistant came bursting through the doors with a panicked expression.
"What?" I snapped.
"Someone took her!" She yelled.
My eyes went wide as I could feel my heart drop. "You're lying." I stated as I grabbed my phone.
"I'm not. We need to go now!" She yelled and quickly typed the code in for the emergency escape door.
I honestly don't even remember going down the stairs. I just remember telling my assistant to stay inside before I drew my gun and pushed the door open.
I thought I was going to be sick at the sight in front of me.
Our well trained SWAT team was already out and aiming but what sent body raking shivers through me was what they were aiming at.
Liam fucking Payne held Blair against him with a pistol pressed to her head.
"Do it! Shoot me and I'll kill her right now!" He yelled and by the way Blair winced, I could tell he was hurting her.
Blair opened her eyes momentarily and immediately looked at me. "Michael." Her voice was so soft but so shaky.
"Liam, put the gun down now!" I shouted as I held my gun steady.
He simply laughed as he cocked his gun. "Why not put on a show, Clifford?"
I wanted more than anything to have one of our snipers finish this but I knew that would cause more harm than it would do good.
"This is between us. Put the gun down and we can talk, mate." I lied.
This wasn't between us anymore. Liam made no move, which frightened me even more because at any moment he could pull that trigger and end it all.
To my surprise I watched as Liam shakily lowered the gun before completely dropping it, letting it clatter to the ground.
I breathed a sigh of relief as I closed my eyes momentarily.
"Liam-" I started but was cut off by a gut wrenching scream.
My head snapped up to the pair, making me want to throw up.
Before the team or I could do anything to stop him, Liam had driven a small dagger into Blair's side.
"Get the hell away from her!" I yelled as I ran towards him to try and help this girl but stopped when he twisted the knife causing another scream to escape her lips.
"The closer you get to us, the closer to death she gets." He laughed.
I hated my next move but I had no choice. I gave the subtle signal to no one in particular. The next thing I knew, there was a loud gunshot and a thud as Liam and Blair's bodies hit the ground. The SWATS raced to Liam as I ran to Blair.
"Fuck." I swore as I knelt down next to her and the pool of blood. "Blair, baby." I spoke.
Her eyes were clenched shut in pain as tears rolled down her face. "M-Mikey."
"Shh. I know it hurts. We're going to be okay but right now I need you to look at me, love." I said lightly as I reached for the knife.
"N-no. Please don't." She begged as she felt the tiny pressure the knife had caused.
"Baby girl, I've got to." I said sadly.
She let another tear fall before she nodded and closed her eyes again, bracing herself for the pain.
I bite down hard on my lip and squeezed her hand as I hesitantly pulled the knife from her side.
Blair's scream echoed around the parking lot and bounced of the lightly wooded area.
"I know. Look at me-Blair, open you eyes!" I spoke sternly.
"It hurts so bad, Mikey." She cried, her bottom lip trembling as she let a sob through.
I sighed as I brushed hair out of her face. "I know, Blair. We are going to get you taken care of and back home as soon as possible, okay?" My hopes lifted as I heard sirens approaching.
"S-stay with me." Her eyes held a pleading emotion as I nodded.
"Of course, beautiful." I smiled when she lightly squeezed my hand before allowing her eyes to close again.
"Promise you won't leave?" She breathed as her chest heaved with pain.
"I promise. I'm never going to leave. Never." I said quietly as EMTs filed around us.
Pain was etched in her soft features as two men rushed by her side to help.
I slowly turned my head to see the chaos a few feet away. I bit back a sob as I stared at  the boy who I grew up with. My best friend had just been shot right in front of me.
