"What are you talking about? It's never going to work. And why'd you name it that?"
Asking too many questions: nervousness? Check. Blaine looked at me like a doctor explaining what's wrong with her patient, especially with the notebook in her hands.
"My Nerd Project, a guide to make nerds popular, was named 'cause you're my nerd and it's about you. Interesting, huh?"
Huh. It did sound interesting, but still one step at a time.
"This experiment is featuring me? And wait, did you say I'm your nerd?" I blushed slightly.
"Yep. Okay first, we need to follow the steps I already created. OH and you don't get to read anything I report or the entire guide until the end."
And she thought I would agree to this, why?
"You know, you can't get me to agree to this." I said, voicing my thoughts. I folded my arms on my chest to emphasize how serious I'm being.
"Really? Beeee-cause our professor stated that if we complete this, he'll excuse your absence you baby slacker." She chuckled.
He will! I won't have an absence! Score!
"You think I could become popular? It's preposterous though." She immediately pointed at me.
"Exactly, that's what we're going to fix! No more geek talk, it's also in the guide. Just trust me." She hugged this 'guide' as if it was Nobel Prize worthy.
But, something still didn't feel right. With my glasses, I should have a better chance to read what's in that book. I got off the bed and walked around trying my best not to look suspicious. She had it open to the first page, and when I almost caught view, she moved to the side with an 'hmph.'
"Could I at least look at the guide?"
You'd think I would want to look at a life-changing guide!
"No, and I need you to sign it too." She said, pointing at the first page.
"I'm not signing anything until I read it first." I argued, turning away. I refused to look at her face; it's a portal to agreeing with everything she says. She sighed, and I almost looked at her.
"I guess we're going to do this the hard way." She said as she sat on the bed while I kept my view on the window.
"I'm not scared of you or your teddy bears."
I'm scared of looking you in the face and saying 'yes' to my doom!
"We'll see."
"Alright, before I disprove my theory, I have to go take my grandma's cat for a walk. Again, I don't get why she wants me to walk a cat, but it's exceptional because it's my grandma."
She sighed.
"Just, sign it, you won't regret it."
"Okay so, bye!"
I hurried out of there.
Don't get me wrong, I would love to be popular. It's just a guide for it seems a little childish and too good to be true. And plus, I don't get why I have to sign anything. It seems like Blaine's up to something. So, I need to think more of it.
My house is two blocks away. My mind was lost in its thoughts as I walked home, got the cat and its collar, and went to the park. Ah the park and its sweet smell of freedom. The wind was blowing through my black hair, while I was wondering how it was possible that I was the only guy at my school to have real black hair. I mean, shouldn't I stand out for that? But, I guess that's another thing everyone hates on me.
Maybe, this idea isn't so bad. I mean, if all goes wrong, I could, at the very least, still enjoy myself with Blaine's presence. As I walked further into the center of the park, I noticed that there weren't so many people out here even though this weather was striking; but for some reason, more couples were here. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for them. It's just that's all you seem to notice when you're single. I felt a pull to the bushes, so the cat had my entire attention until someone ran into me and dropped me to the floor. I groaned; my back was just healing!
"You good, Alan?"
The thought of someone knowing my name caused my eyes to open widely.
"Yeah, thanks.. Kevin."
He grabbed my arm and pulled me up.
"What are you doing here? With a cat?" He added a little confused.
"My grandma wants me to walk Ms. Feathers and don't ask why that's her name. I don't even know why, let alone why I'm walking her."
It's true: my grandma could be really strange. I'm glad that skipped a generation!
"Someone sounds grumpy; does someone miss Blaine?"
"We're just friends; is that so weird?"
Yeah because you actually are in love with her! ..Shush you!
"Good! Because I was gonna ask her out, but I understood you had dibs. You do have dibs, right?" I grew angry.
"She's not someone you can call dibs on! She's a very special female!"
He raised an eyebrow in response.
"B-because she needs respect!"
"And you can give her that?" My face burned at that.
"Well no.. I mean yes I do respect her but I just-"
"Yeah?" Stupid smug face of his. "You like her, right? Because if you don't, then-"
"Whatever." I huffed.
"What was that?"
"I like her." I said with clenched teeth and started muttering words like 'stupid jock.' I wasn't even scared of his annoying self. I mean, seriously.
"That's nothing to be ashamed of."
He put his arm on my shoulder. Now, I raised an eyebrow.
"I'm a nerd; she's a cheerleader."
It couldn't change, right? Even with the guide, I sighed; I guess I wouldn't know without experimenting it.
"Just have some hope."
I rolled my eyes. I guess it wouldn't kill me.
"Yes coach, now excuse me, I have a meeting with a doctor." He nodded and took his arm off my shoulder as I took Ms. Feathers and started heading home.
"Have fun with Blaine!" He shouted after me. I sent him a glare, as I heard his laughter.
After returning the cat, I went over to Blaine's. We both have keys to each other houses, so I opened the door and went straight to her bedroom. I knocked twice until she opened her door with a mischievous grin.
"I'll get you a pen."
~~
"Sign here, here, one more time here AND here!" I was signing blindfolded! She literally blindfolded me.
"Blaine, why do I have to sign so much?" I asked her that same question after each signature that I engraved into that stupid contract.
"Just so you don't drop out of anything without..consequences." I scowled.
See, she's up to no good. For all I know, she's plotting to burn my Star Wars backpack.
"Done." I dropped the pen from my hand and took off the blindfold.
"Great!" She clapped her hands as she took the guide. "Just trust me Alan, you won't regret this."
I sighed. But, I know there's something in me that really wants this. But you know what, if I'm really going to commit, then I have to promise something to myself.
After this, I have to confess my love to Blaine. I looked at her face. I.. swear it.
