After eating breakfast, Aurora and I washed up, and walked down the hallways to the throne room. When we got there, the first thing we noticed was that all the villains were there, and that they all turned their heads towards us when we entered the room. Maleficent sat on a rather simple looking black throne, and Jafar sat next to her, his eyes cast nervously to the floor.
"Come in Princesses." Maleficent said, Aurora and I walked into the room slowly, our eyes scanning the room and everyone in it. Every one of the villains were in the room, and every one of them watched us with dark yet calm gazes.
All of them, that is, except one.
Standing quietly, her head lowered, was Morgana, her hands held something that was very important elsewise she wouldn't be gripping it so tightly that I couldn't see what it was. As I passed her she raised her head slowly, and I noticed her eyes, they were mostly blank and red rimmed, as if she had been crying for what looked like a very long time, her lower lip quivered as I passed and when I tried to look into her eyes she looked away.
"The villains and I have talked over what to do with you and your friend," Maleficent said, snapping me from my thoughts, "and of course everyone has different opinions..."
And just like that, all hell broke loose.
"Lets imprison them in the Underworld!" Hades shouted. "They'll make fine cabin girls on my ship." Captain hook exclaimed wickedly. "Off with their heads!" The Queen of Hearts shouted as she waved her staff. Aurora's fingers dung into my skin, her eyes scanned the room nervously, and her lower lip quivered. Maleficent sat on her throne her eyes looking over everyone in the room.
Then she spotted Aurora.
I don't know what came over Maleficent that day, but it was obviously something powerful, her eyes widened and the smile on her face faltered, Aurora raised her eyes and as soon as she saw Maleficent, she stopped trembling and her eyes widened.
Maleficent raised a hand wordlessly and everything fell silent, her eyes stayed looked into Aurora's for a little longer, before she looked away.
"As the rules go, the Princesses will be held captive until we find out what we can do with them. But I propose we try something different...the Princesses will be held in the Dark Lands, yes, but I think we should change the rules the Princesses will be held here as prisons/honored guests."
There was a second or two of stunned silence, all the villains drew in their breath and opened their mouths getting ready to speak, but then there came the sound of someone clearing their throat. The villains parted, and through the crowd came Morgana, she approached Maleficent slowly, before bowing a little and straightening up, she cleared her throat again, and spoke.
"I know it's hopeless for any of us villains to be forgiven by the Princes, but the Princesses, that's a different story. I think we should go with your idea Maleficent, after all, not much happens around here as it is." Then respectfully she bowed again before walking back to her sister Ursula.
Maleficent smiled, but it was a peaceful smile, her eyes twinkled, she turned to look at the other villains. "So it's settled then. Oh, by the way, did I mention that the bar is officially open until 4 p.m.?" A cheer rose up and the villains raced out the doors, the whole hall fell silent as if they had never been there in the first place.
Maleficent turned to look at the two tentacle sisters.
"You two, prep up a party, something like this doesn't happen everyday." The two sisters nodded quickly before running out the doors. Maleficent turned to look at Jafar, her pleasant face gone sour.
"And you, let Frollo know that he should be expecting guests soon." Jafar nodded nervously, before racing out the door.
Maleficent turned to Aurora and I and smiled. She then withdrew a small whistle from her pockets, and blew, the sound was quick and sharp, and almost as soon as it died down, the doors opened and in came four animals, three hyenas and one lion. I knew who they were even before I looked at the collars around their neck, Shen zi, Banzai, and Ed were the hyenas, and Scar was the lion.
The four of them stopped and stared at Aurora and I, their jaws agape, Shen zi was the first one who spoke.
"Let me guess Mal, we're suppose to take these two on a tour of the Dark Lands?" Maleficent winced at the nickname, before nodding. "And make sure you guys don't do anything stupid okay?"
"Pfft, when have we ever done that?" Banzai said with a smile, Maleficent smiled herself just for a second before turning and walking off down the hall. I turned to look at the four animals and gulped nervously, I opened my mouth getting ready to say something, but Shen zi beat me to it.
"Well, let's go." She said, while turning towards the door and wordlessly Aurora and I followed.
The first thing I felt was the light, surprisingly bright and welcoming. I raised my hand to shield my eyes, and stopped for a second or two to let my eyes adjust. When they finally did, I slowly lowered my hand and looked around.
Maleficent's castle was perched on top a tall hill, I couldn't really say it was a mountain, it was more or less a hill. My jaw fell open in wonder as I looked down at the kingdom, it was so much prettier now that I was outside. A sweet scent gently tickled my nose, and I looked down to see a patch of flowers at my feet, they were white roses with black edges and dark green stalks.
Stunned, I knelt down and grazed my fingers against the petals, they were incredibly soft, like silk and velvet combined. I wanted to pick one, but Shen zi jumped in front of and snarled. I leapt back, frightened but only a little.
"Listen girlfriend," Shen zi said, her voice low and threatening, "just because Maleficent is letting you guys go on a tour of the Midnight Realm, doesn't mean that you own the place. Got it?"
For the majority of her statement, I had been frightened, but when she finished, two certain words caught my attention.
"The Midnight Realm?" I said. Shen zi nodded, annoyance flickering in her eyes.
"Yeah, that's the real name of this place... you didn't know that?" I raised my head and slowly looked around.
"No," I whispered softly, "no, I didn't."
Shen zi sighed before quickly turning around, then she took to her feet and loped off down the hill, Banzai and Ed following closely behind. For a second or two, I stood stunned, but then Aurora's sweet laughter shook me and with that she grabbed ahold of me and together we raced off down the green grass hill.
