After some time running/limping I stopped to catch my breath a little ways from Esmerelda's house. I limped a little more until I reached the door and knocked. The door opened and Esmerelda was standing in the doorway, her eyes hardened when she saw who it was. "Well, well, well. Look who it is, little Ms. I'm-on-the-good-side. What are you doing here?" I collapsed then, half of my leg was pure pain now. Esmerelda's eyes widened when she saw my red ankle. "Oh no, you're hurt." She ran down the steps and pulled me up before walking me inside.
Some time later I was sitting on a chair, my right foot in a bowel of warm water. Aurora was sitting several feet away and Esmerelda came walking back in, holding a strip of white fabric. "Here," she said, gently lifting my foot out, "this outta help." Carefully, she wrapped my foot in the strip of cloth and lay it on the carpet. As I watched her do this a thought crossed my mind. "Esmerelda, what do you now about Maleficent and Jafar?" She froze, her head bent down so I couldn't look in her eyes. "You always were the type of person to know everything about everyone. What do you know about those two?" Esmerelda sighed sadly, sitting back on the carpet. "You really want to know?" She said. "Yes." I said softly. She sighed again before beginning.
"Years ago, there was a time when Maleficent was new to the villains. She was an outcast, as unbelievable as it sounds, and all she wanted to do was fit in. Jafar was the type of friendly guy that everyone liked so he took her under his wing. The two of them became the best of friends and did everything together. At some point, Jafar asked her to be his girlfriend and she said yes. They loved each other dearly for some time then things began to change. Maleficent became power hungry and wanted to rule the Midnight Realm. When she successfully became Queen, the love she had for Jafar disappeared just like that. After that, she kept Jafar by her side but only for show and she became abusive towards him. And it's been like that way ever since." Esmerelda raised her head to look at me. "I would have left Maleficent by now if I was him. Why do you ask?"
"Oh, no reason." But there was a reason, one that I knew couldn't be avoided. Esmerelda seemed to notice the sadness that flickered in my eyes, she studied me for a moment. "You're worried about him aren't you?" I winced. She smiled sweetly. "It's alright if you do you know." She said compassionately. "I was pretty surprised myself when I realized I loved Frollo." "But how do you know you love someone?" I asked desperately like a child. "It's been such a long time ever since I fell in love, I've forgotten how." Esmerelda stood up, gently drying her hands in her dress. "I guess you just know." I looked down quickly, unsure what to say.
"By the way," Esmerelda said, "Maleficent is hosting a party three nights from now, in honor of you and Aurora coming here to the Midnight Realm. It's technically not optional for you guys not to go, the party's in your honor after all. I'll escort you guys if it will make you feel better." I glanced at Aurora. "Do you want to go?" I asked, Aurora nodded. "We've been here for two days now, we might as well get to know this place." She said. "What will the villains do to us anyways?" Esmerelda shrugged. "Who knows," she said, "when I first came here, they intended to keep me in their prisons until I rooted away. Of course, that was before Frollo fell in love with me." But that answer didn't help at all.
