Chapter 11
I FOUND MOM and Lance talking at the living room when I exited my room, pulling my luggage behind me. They seemed to have a light conversation because I saw curves in both of their faces. When they saw me there standing, Lance approached me first and offered to help me with my luggage as mom instructed him to put it in the car's compartment.
Yvonne hugged my back when she appeared behind Lance who was standing near the door, waiting for me as I finished my hair with the car's mirror.
"I will surely miss you." Yvonne whispered, still hugging me.
"Oh, dear, I will miss you too." I said, turning to hug her and plant a kiss at the top of her head then she stayed there and watched us as we left.
Mom drove through Hansville. Lance and I were at the backseat, keeping the silence untamed. At first, I thought mom was too busy in driving to notice it until she asked what's wrong. Lance and I shrugged when she looked at us through the mirror. She just smiled meanly.
Neither Lance nor I wanted to talk about what happened yesterday and I thought that's what was better. I tried to bring us back to normal without us needing to talk about it, but it seemed that Lance did not get it. It felt like we had to be more careful with how we acted when there were others around, even mom.
Hansville was still the same as it was when we reached there—just a lot quieter maybe because boarding students around were still in their vacations. Lance was walking around, checking like a supervisor.
"It's a good place." He said, "I'd also prefer renting here if ever."
Mom, who was opening the door of my apartment, glanced at his direction "You must mean something by that, Lance. You can rent at the same apartment with Dominic. That would be practical if ever you would decide to transfer here." Mom shifted her eyes to my direction and she smiled slyly. I rolled my eyes.
We must be talking loudly because the door from Greg's apartment opened and then he appeared behind it, pacing towards our direction. I hadn't told him the exact date when I would be back and I was happy he looked surprise. Wow, I missed him so much. At least I coped to be still from where I was standing and waited until our lips touched again. He lifted me through my back and he kissed me again. When we knew it was taking too long, I pushed myself down. Greg, then, walked to mom who was by the door, watching us. He hugged him first and they touched cheeks.
It was strange. It was just the other day when I had no assurance with anything and next, here it was now, Greg feeling comfortable with mom and being proud as he kissed me. It struck me so sudden that it took more than a minute before everything settled in to me.
"How are you, Greg?" Mom asked.
"I'm good, Mrs. Madrid, glad to see you and your son."
Greg's eyes shifted to Lance, who was leaning his butt on the car, and then to mine. Greg gave me the look like asking who is he?
"Uhmm, yeah." I said, puzzling how I would introduce him to Lance. I told myself to say the truth and there's nothing to worry about. Lance was just a friend, wasn't he? "Hey Lance," I raised my hand to his direction, beckoning him. I was glad he obeyed. "Lance this is Greg, my uhhm..." I paused for a moment. I needed to think. I looked at the door of my apartment, mom was already inside. Wait, why do I need to think? "My boyfriend. And Greg, this is Lance." My boyfriend? The moment it escaped my from my mouth, there was a feeling inside I couldn't explain. My heart pumped stronger but in a normal rhythm. So now I had a boyfriend. It felt great.
