Chapter 28

WEEKS AFTER WEEKS and the heaviness in my chest felt lighter and lighter each day. Time heals all wounds. I just had to wait for another two weeks before the beginning of classes. New academic year, new life? I didn't know. I would try to get things back to normal. Besides, it would be Greg's last semester and time would come, eventually I would forget about him. Was it true that what came easy went easy? Well, that was what happened to me. Romance went away as fast as it came.

Greg had not called anymore since the day he last came here. We didn't have contact. I once checked his Facebook profile, expecting that he had already unfriended me, but we were still Facebook friends. Not that I was expecting him to call or text me. I just simply missed him.

I was already in my night robe when mom peeked behind the door of my room. She smiled first before she sat down on my bed.

"Aren't you going to ask what happened on my vacation on the Philippines?" She asked.

I almost forgot about it. But since mom broached up the topic, maybe she wanted to tell me something. "Sure, what's up in there?"

"Well, I started a business there."

I furrowed my eyebrows. "Oh, yeah? What kind of business?" Maybe that was the reason why mom was being frequently absent these days.

"It's just a small diagnostic clinic. My friends and I are still processing the documents. We had already purchased a land and the building has been already built there." She proudly said.

"That sounds great, though it seems like I am going to suffer it with my allowance." I said, worried about how I would manage my budget.

"Oh, don't you worry with that. Your allowance will not be affected much, but there will be times that I might send you lower cash since we still need to purchase some apparatus and get some permits. "

"Then I think I should save more money starting from the first day. Good luck to that business, mom."

She smiled and nodded. "Sheila, Amber and Tina are now there in the Philippines to process the papers and maybe on the next few months, I will follow them there with Emily."

I frowned. "That makes me jealous. I wish I could come with you."

"Actually, I am telling you this because of that possibility. By the time the business starts running, I will be probably busy the whole time, so I am thinking of moving there soon."

My eyes opened wide in surprise. Finally! But wait, "Wow, it really flatters me to hear those. But living there soon? What about my studies?" I walked to my bed and sat there beside mom.

"We will think about that when everything is ready. They have excellent universities there in the Philippines. I'm sure you'll wrack your mind in choosing where you would want to enroll." She looked down and found my hands. She rested hers to mine before continuing. "And also, it would be great way to move on."

I turned to find her eyes. It was gleaming with pride and understanding. "Maybe. But I'm not ready to leave my friends here yet. What if I finish my studies here first before following you there?"

She gave me an assuring nod. "Dominic, that's just only my suggestion. The plan is still yours. I'm not forcing you to come with me right away, but later on, you have to decide whether you want to stay here or follow me there."

"Yes. Thank you, mom."

She threw me a look. "Thank you for what?"

I shrugged. "For doing this all. For everything."
