Chapter 30

I SLID IN my bag a pack of gummy candies from a box of it that Lance sent me. I called him after I got it and the second he picked up the call, I knew there was something. Our conversation had never been that dead. I was sad and regretful with what I told him. I should have not been that harsh, but I couldn't think of any way where it would sound gentler.

"Take care of yourself. When there's a problem, you know what to do. Just call." Mom said, combing her hair at the mirror as she got herself prepped for work. When she was done, she turned to Darryl. "Thank you for letting Dominic stay with you here. I can assure you that he always behaves on his best. You don't have to worry."

Darryl smiled to her in respond, his small eyes squinting from sleep.

I walked mom out to her car and hugged her before she drove away. I was lucky I had her.

I felt a little nervous as I stepped in the main gate. I made sure I ducked my head low enough like I lost my confidence for myself. I just didn't want to see those chestnut brown eyes.

I reached my first class without having sign of his presence. That was good. I was unsure how long I could keep doing this but I would as long as possible.

"Dominic?" I knew it was a voice of a girl but still, I startled when I heard my name called. I turned to Thea as she sat beside me.

"Hey, so we are classmates?"

"Duh, that's obvious." She flipped her hair back. "I am happy to be your seatmate." She squealed.

"I'm happy to see you inside the same class, too. Anyway, thanks for taking care of my things."

She nodded. "What's with that gray contact lenses and tan skin, huh? Eh, you look hundred times more handsome now."

I chuckled. "Really? Isn't the gray shade too light for me?"

"No, it makes you really, really cute. And the tan makes you look manlier." She traced my skin with her eyes and leaned to whisper. "Are you trying to seduce Greg and make him feel he lost someone as hot as you?"

I rolled my eyes and laughed. "That never ran in my head! We went to a beach and I decided to stay a little too long under the sun. There's no other reason why. The contact lenses are obviously for my vision."

She shrugged and turned to the board when our English professor walked in and started writing on the board.

I was expecting to see Gavril around, wishing that he was still my classmates for this semester, but that was less likely to happen. Anthony, who was one of Gavril's close friends, was sitting next to Thea.

I poked him. "Hey, where's Gavril?"

He shrugged and whispered. "I heard he transferred school and shifted a major."

I nodded. Just sad I won't be seeing Gavril around. I was used to mock him every time we ran into each other.

When the professor dismissed the class, Thea came to Darryl's class and I went to the cafeteria for my some snacks since it was too early for Lunch. I grabbed a papaya salad and sat at the corner, away from the crowd. A little while later, someone called my name and I looked for its source.

"Tom! Hey Congrats, I've heard you passed the licensure exam." Tom came and sat on my table.

He gave me a high-five. "Yeah, actually, I came here to hand these reviewers to Greg. But I think he's not here yet. Would you give this to him?" He said, placing a mountain of papers on the table.
