Chapter 14
THREE DAYS AFTER Greg left I still had no message received from him. I'd been worrying about him and his dad.
Until nine in this evening when he texted me telling that his dad was still unconscious and still under ICU. It was just a two-minute call. Greg sounded isolated. I could infer from his voice how terrified he was. Who would not be? I remembered the same with dad. But Greg was more fortunate. His dad was still alive and he had time to take care of him, unlike me.
Guilt rushed up inside me when the doctor declared that dad was gone. I didn't know if I'd been a good son. Dad had always been a great father and he loved me very much. I kept that in mind always and it helped. I believed he had forgiven me for any stupid things I'd done to both mom and him.
It was Friday afternoon, after class, when I rang Greg.
"I miss you." Greg said when he picked up the call.
"I do, too. Each minute you're not here." I said, wishing it could lighten his mood up.
"Are you home?"
"I'm on the way home. When will you be back?" I said as I exited the main gate, walking slowly.
"I'll try to be back there next Sunday. " His voice's low.
"OK. Take care of yourself and don't worry too much."
"I'll try. Bye."
I bumped on Thea while I was ending the call with Greg. She said hi and was asking where Greg was. I told her where and why.
"He needs your company, why didn't you come with him?" She furrowed her brows as she asked.
"School stuffs. It's exhausting. I have to prioritize." I lied. That was not the reason. I could handle my studies well.
"Oh, good boy. Your mother must be proud of you."
I chuckled, "I believe she is."
I was already in front of my apartment, so Thea and I had to split, but before she completely crossed the end of the road, a car stopped by in front of her and the guy inside talked to her.
Not a few seconds after, while I was digging my hand inside my bag, thinking where the hell I put the keys, Thea called out, "You have plans for tonight? Want to come with us?"
Well, I didn't really have plans, but to study in advance for my botany class. That's a boring one and that would not be a good excuse. "Where?"
"Gavril's throwing up a party at their house."
Maybe that's why Gavril was absent earlier, "Sure."
Gavril's place was a big one. It was like a mansion. There was a pool and vast garden that could occupy all the guests. There were equal numbers of boy and girl guests and I was familiar with some of them, though they belong to different colleges. We saw Gavril and he invited us to have something to eat inside. After that, we remained seated on their glamorous guest's room and waited until it was dark.
The night got deeper. I glanced on my watch and it said eight fifteen. Guests were starting to fill in. There were now more strangers than schoolmates and it was like the crowd had been divided into two groups. Greg's friends were real cool rich kiddos arriving with their Lamborghinis, Fords and Ferraris. I couldn't emphasize which model, I was not a fan of fancy cars.
