"Stop stuffing your theories in his head!" I screamed now reaching my limit. "He's a real person, I know he is!"
The argument became mine to help defend. I couldn't stomach the thought of Barry getting into Al's head and I had to prevent it as much as I could. But as much as I fought against it, Barry just always had to rebuttal to throw at me. "How can you even prove this, 'Alphonse Elric' even existed? That the identity isn't a lie of convenience? Where's his body? Have either of you two even seen it?"
My eyes were locked on Barry in a death glare and my fists clenched together so hard that I could have caused my hand to bleed if it came down to it. With a snarl I answered, "It was an accident. You know nothing."
Humankind cannot gain without first giving something in return. To obtain something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we thought that was the world's one and only truth.
-Alphonse Elric-
Ready, Steady can't hold me back
Ready, Steady give me good luck
Ready Steady never look back
Let's get started!
Ready Steady GO!
The landscape blows on by me,
as I roll my way forward
and even if things get desperate
I won't lose sight of the goal now!
You can take those unreliable maps and burn them up!
I'm going to take those hidden truths,
and snatch them in the palm of my hand!
Delirious, (Speedily),
I've broken through this far,
My heart is beating so loud and hard,
it feels like it's about to burst!
Your voice echoes as you call out to me,
but I just don't have the time to stop where I am
Ready, Steady, Go!
Please, trust me!!!
Ready, Steady, Go- L'arc en Ciel
I should have tried harder, adverted my focus. Instead of working so hard to go against Barry, I should have made sure Al didn't get swept into a mindset that was designed to make everything harder. But, in the end it didn't work. Nothing I said made anything better. In fact, I think I made everything worse. Al became suspicious of Ed, and even people from home, before we even stepped inside the lab.
Barry let out a battle cry now with his cleaver ready to strike once more, only the different move was him heading straight for me. I got into a stance ready to push him back or make him defenseless that was until Al pushed me back and blocked the attack with his arm. My eyes widen staring at Al in disbelief. He staggered back and glanced back to me for a moment before snapping his gaze to Barry. "What's wrong? Is there something on your mind, your actions are slow and clumsy! It seems an artificial soul doesn't measure up to the real thing!"
"N-No... You're lying..." Al faltered quietly looking at his hand. Then shooting his helmet up along with his vision up to Barry. "I'm Alphonse Elric!!"
In response Barry tackled him, pushing him so far into the wall that it started to crumble against Al. All the while Barry giggled and stared right at Al with what I could assume was intent. "Like I said, you can't prove that; can you? So just accept it and you'll feel better!"
