Al shoved the door open while I followed along and forced myself inside immediately, "Brother! Your not gonna believe who's here!"
Footsteps echoed behind both Al and I, the man standing behind me and Al in the doorway, his expression not even changing from before. I let out a strangled squeak and looked back to everyone in the room, hoping for a different reaction. Winry who was standing in front of Ed, with a red tint to her cheeks, stared at the man with a puzzled feature along with her sister who was laying on a bed, Yuki held up her guard; ready to snap if she needed to take such actions. As expected, Ed had a similar response as Al did, taken over by fear, allowing the color to be drained from his face.
"Ed, do you know this man?" Wynter questioned.
Ed let out a small noise of distress that also confirmed that he knew the man. His eyes narrowed to the side, as if he was thinking about something. "Then that means..." He trailed off seeming to become even paler. Standing up and he grabbed my wrist now pulling me away from the man in the doorway. My eyes widen as I was yanked away by Ed and pulled to the couch as his right hand released me. I ran into the couch, my knees hitting the frame and my head nearly hitting the wall. "Sorry Pene!" Ed yelled out as he started to flee, running towards the window.
He pulled the window open, pulling himself out the window, only to face an obstacle. Being flown back with a kick to the face. I quickly stood and came to his aid now watching the woman from before step through the window. So that's where she went. "And just where do you think your going Ed?" She asked in a monotonous voice while releasing a sigh. "You've always been so predictable."
"H-Hello teacher, what are you doing here?" Ed sputtered.
I looked up to the woman and then back to Ed. "She's your teacher? So she's a..."
"An Alchemist." Ed finished. "Taught us everything we know."
She searched the room, her eyes looking through the area but not even taking a step closer to us or farther from us. She then gritted her teeth and yelled, "Where's Alphonse?" The mention of him made Al squeak and stand tall. The woman looked over to him and let out a small laugh as she walked closer to him. "Oh, I'm so sorry. I want to thank you so much for escorting us here. Do you know where I can find Alphonse?"
Al placed his hand on his helmet, quietly mumbling incoherent things to himself momentarily. "Well, I'm Alphonse..." He answered softly.
She laughed and nodded not even registering what he just told her. "That's right, of course you are. And as I was saying." Then stopping herself when she finally realized what she said and what he told her. Her face dropped, facing downwards, barely catching a glimpse of Al slowly trying to move away from her. The woman grabbed Al's wrist and flipped him over her shoulder so that he landed on his back with a cry. Ed let out a yell and hid behind me while peeking over my shoulder.
From the corner of my eye, I could see Yuki pulling her fingers together to snap. "Yuki, don't!" I ordered now looking back to the woman.
"So you're hiding in disguises now?" The woman accused. "Don't worry, I've had plenty of stories reach me about how my apprentices broke away from everything I taught them to be the scum of the military? Isn't that right?"
Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one and only truth.
