I'm Sorry

The hurt I see in your eyes is undeniable
Fear alight in them from what has transpired
The future we had planned
Halted in moments of built up frustration
A boiling point reached to its' maximum capacity

I'm sorry

But this, what we were
What we had must end
The journey has reached its' summit
Downhill we must now tread
A certain painful descent

I'm sorry

We both knew this day would come
The inevitable delayed
All the trials and tribulations we faced
Ignored in pretense
Silent anger of fury brewing
Now more intense

I'm sorry

I see your pain and torture
And it is with great sadness
That I fulfill this unwanted desire
But, it must be
For both of our sanity

I'm sorry

The good times will never be forgotten
Neither the bad
Because it wrote our story
Our forbidden and unforbidden past
It has made us who we are in whatever manner it is

I'm sorry

For breaking your heart, I too break mine
Don't believe I'm not in pain because I've hardened my exterior
An art perfected over time as you made me thus

I'm sorry

But one day we'll both look back and realize it was for our
Self preservation
'Cause if I stay, I'll only be a shell
Empty and destitute longing for release as I suffocate in this, whatever this is or was

I'm sorry

In the end, I'll always remember you
Your smile
Your laughter
Your beauty that was all true
All so real as it still is
Your undeniable love for me in the way you knew how to give even though it has led, to this
A bittersweet end

I'm sorry

Yes, I cry silently, secretly alone
Unseen from your view
Because if you saw my turmoil
You'd know
That my love for you still glows
So I hide behind the wall of protected humility
Because self preservation will give me back my needed sanity

I'm sorry

Please let me go...
