Bridgid's POV•
After 1st-3rd period ended, it was time for lunch. I gathered my books at the bell and took them to my locker. Since my class is far away from the cafeteria, I ended up getting there after Jadyn, Meghan, and Katie.
Last year I would always sit with them AND the cheerleaders when we all did cheer, but now all four of us quit because it took up to much of our time during the week. Luckily our parents agreed.
When I arrived in the cafeteria, I saw my friends waiting for me at the end of our normal lunch table. But this time something was different. Sitting there with them was Ella and Courtney-the two most annoying girls in 11th grade. I gave them a questioning look, but all they did was signal for me to hurry up.
I stand in line and wait my turn. Unlike other school lunches around here, our lunch is actually good and not disgusting. I take a tray and scoop up a few chicken nuggets, a handful of french fries, a cup of fruit, and a chocolate milk. I scan my ID card under the machine, expecting the lunch lady to tap in my lunch order. She just stands there and squints at the screen with a confused look before making me scan my ID card again. Following her order, the register beeps. "Uh oh." I accidentally thought out loud.
When the lunch register beeps it normally means either your card is inactive or there isn't any money left on your card. Hopefully it wasn't either.
"Sorry sweetie, back of the line. You'll have to get an IOU since your card is empty." The lunch lady told me.
"But I didn't get a warning yesterday that my card was low. If I did my mom would've refilled it last night!" I complained.
The lunch lady gave me a look that said 'back of the line, NOW.' Just as I picked up my tray to move out of the way, Shawn came running up from his table to see what the problem was. I explained to him that there was no money on my card so I had to go to the back of the line. I honestly tried so hard not to drool or stutter while talking but completely failed. I sounded as if I had seen a ghost. He looked concerned, but then suddenly a idea came to his mind.
"Excuse me? Yeah how much does she need for the lunch?" He asked the lunch lady.
"3.50, why?" She asked.
Shawn pulled out his wallet and took out three one dollar bills and two quarters. Before I could tell him he didn't have to do this, he handed it to the lunch lady.
She looked at me and told me it was my lucky day, and to make sure that I refill my card by tonight. "Next please." She yelled. That was my signal from her to leave.
"Thanks so much Shawn, but you really didn't have to! You're a life saver!" I said thankfully.
Before even thinking about what I was doing, I set down my lunch tray and gave Shawn a huge hug. I guess I caught him off guard, because immediately he stumbled a few feet backwards, luckily catching his balance before falling.
"Whoooa there tiger! Calm yourself!" He joked.
"Sorry." I say blushing enormously. I quickly let go and brush my shirt and pants off to straighten them back up.
As I pick up my tray I feel like I'm being watched. When I take a look towards my lunch table, Jadyn, Meghan, and Katie are staring at me with their hands forming a shape of a heart laughing as if it's the funniest thing they had ever seen. I playfully rolled my eyes towards them laughing.
"Thanks again Shawn but my friends are waiting for me at our table." I explained.
"No problem, anytime beautiful." He said with a wink, turned around, and left. My heart felt as if it was gonna explode!
I fast walked to my lunch table and sat directly across from Meghan. We chatted for a few minutes about my encounter with Shawn before I remembered that I wanted to know what was up with the two rats (Ella and Courtney).
"Uh, guys?" I asked confused.
"What?" Katie answered.
None of them noticed me flashing my eyes back and forth between us and the weasels at the end of the table.
"Uh Bridgid, are you okay? Your eye is kind of twitching, like, everywhere. Do you need us to take you to the nurse?" Meghan asked concerned.
Ugh. I swear sometimes they're just so clueless like they're brains have been sucked out of their heads.
"Yeah, I'm fine." I answered slightly annoyed now. Finally, I gave up with the eye contact hints.
"Ok, for crying out loud guys why are they sitting here???" I questioned as I pointed my finger towards them without making it too noticeable.
"Ooohhh, that! Haha." Jadyn laughed.
I don't know why she found this so amusing, but then again she finds everything amusing. For example; one time our friend told us this really lame joke about a potato and an airplane and Jadyn couldn't contain her laughter. It was honestly the most funniest thing I had ever seen- watching someone laugh at a joke that terrible.
As Jadyn continued to laugh for no apparent reason, I focused my attention upon Meghan and Katie. Maybe they could do some explaining.
"Meghan why are Ella and Courtney sitting at our table? Shouldn't they be sitting with their friends at the so called popular table?" I asked waiting for a good reason to be given to me.
"I don't know. They kind of just sat here without even saying anything to us as if we weren't even sitting here."
This was the second time this week they decided to sit at our table and I was already getting sick of it.
"Guys I can't take this much longer." I sighed.
"Me either." They agreed.
"If only I could do something about it..." Jadyn said with her devious smile spreading across her face. Oh god. This was gonna get ugly real fast.
"I got it! Be right back!" And with that Jadyn stood up and darted straight to the snacks and drinks bar. Of course we're stuck in a situation like this and she decides to buy some food. Yep, typical Jadyn.
She comes back a couple minutes later with a disgusting brown smoothie. It reeked of onions and garlic. Yuck.
"Jadyn, why the hell did you buy that!?" Katie freaks.
"You'll see..." Is all she says.
Before we knew it Jadyn was standing up and slowly walking walking towards the end of the lunch table.
'Oh no Jadyn don't do what I think you're gonna do. Don't do it!' I thought to myself.
But of course, being the person she is, did exactly what I thought she would do.
