Carter's POV•
I could hear the wires snapping along with the cranking of the gears. I quickly whipped out my iPhone from my small beach bag before turning on the flashlight. I then proceeded to the keypad and dialed '911'.
Just as I was about to hit 'call', the elevator halted to a stop. Everything around me was pure silence.
"What the hell just happened?" I asked the others panicking.
"I, I don't even know dude." Shawn answered.
I turned my attention to the four girls in the corner, their eyes filled with relief that we were still alive. "Are you girls alright?" I asked them with a shaky voice.
"Yeah." They all answered quickly and quietly. "What about you guys?"
"We're all good but we need to hurry and get help." Taylor said.
We spent the next few minutes screaming at the top of our lungs for help. No one seemed to hear us.
"Carter try pressing the help button on the elevators keypad." Jadyn suggested.
"Ok." I shined my flashlight onto the keypad before pressing the button continuously. Nothing happened and I was beginning to get worried.
"Shit." Matt murmured through the silence. "Guys, there's no internet connection down here so I can't refresh twitter." He wined.
"Dude, seriously?" Taylor asked before smacking him on the arm. Matt grunted while rubbing his tender arm.
"Now what?" I asked. "Any ideas?"
"Try calling 911." Bridgid suggested. I took up her offer and proceeded to hit 'call'. The line was silent before 3 beeps ended the call.
"No connection." I murmured. "Great. Ok, well anymore ideas?"
"Nope." Everyone answered as the slowly took a seat on the floor. I had a feeling we would be stuck here for a while.
* * * * *
-1 hour later-
We spent the next hour playing games on our phones to pass time as we all hoped someone would find us.
Yeah, yeah. I know what you're thinking. 'They're stuck in a elevator and decided to waste their battery on flappy bird and 2048.' Well, when you don't have any signal, you tend to get bored playing Duck Duck Goose.
It was already 8:45pm, and we decided it was now too late to go to the beach. We planned to go tomorrow morning if we were able to get help by tonight.
"Dude! I just beat my high score on flappy bird!" Taylor announced excitedly. We all looked up and sighed before returning our gazes to our phones. "Rude." He mumbled before doing the same.
A few minutes later, Matt looked up with wide eyes. "Did you guys hear that?" He asked us.
"Hear what?" I responded. We all silenced ourselves and waited for a sound to fill the elevator.
Soon enough, we all heard it. Voices. Tons of them.
"That." Matt cleared up. "The people talking. It sounds like it's coming from that side!" He stood up as he pointed towards the corner he was leaning against.
"Hurry, everyone yell for help!" Katie said before doing so. We all followed her orders and began banging and screaming against the wall.
"Ladies, gentlemen, calm down! It's the police. The firefighters will be here soon to get you outta there. We just need you to talk back and forth to us so we can find where to pry open the doors" He explained.
We all smiled greatly at the fact we were being saved. Thank the lords.
Soon enough, we were all huddled against the back of the elevator. A giant crowbar was forced between the doors before angling sideways and opening the door a few inches.
I didn't realize that I was holding my breath along with the others. When the doors were finally opened enough to exit the cramped space, that's just what we did. One by one we took a step over the large gap between the elevator and the floor.
As soon as we stepped outside, flashing lights and medical vehicles surrounded us. I kind of felt bad that they went all out bringing this equipment when all they needed was a crowbar and a few firefighters.
I found Jadyn in the large crowd and embraced her in a large hug. She burrowed her hair into my shoulder before I could feel a dampness on my shoulder. She way crying.
I cooed lightly into her ear while pulling her closer to me.
"Don't worry, everything is okay now. I'm here and we're safe now. No more worrying. Okay?"
"Okay." Is all she replied before burying her head into my chest more.
I wish I had the courage to ask her out. It hurts to see her hurting and coming to me, but we're still just good friends. I've talked to the guys about this before and they all feel the exact same way about the others.
A few minutes later, the policemen gathered us around him.
"S0, did you guys find out what happened with the elevator?" Shawn asked him impatiently but with a quivering voice. He was still shaken from the event.
"Well kiddos, you're never gonna believe this..."
