"Hah! Suck on that! Beat you once again." I grin triumphantly at Dan who just rolls his eyes and sticks his tongue out.
"You cheated."
"How do you cheat at thumb wars? You're just a sore loser."
He sticks his tongue out at me again and crosses his arms over his chest, pouting. "Am not."
"Whatever you say."
"So, out of curiosity, how did you get caught up in the war with Chase and Lexis and that lot?" Dan asks, stretching his legs and hooking one ankle over the other.
"Well, it wasn't exactly voluntary," I start, a lot of emphasis on 'voluntary'. "I was kidnapped by none other than Lexis, forced to stay with him, met my lost-- but actually not lost-- cousin Flynn, again, met Alisha, met Chase who tried to kidnap me from my kidnapper but failed-- until now, that is-- shot him-- which, again, no one believes - and, well, that's pretty much it."
Dan raises his eyebrows and laughs. "Your life is literally like a poorly written book."
I scoff, "Don't I know it."
"And you and Lexis, you two are shockingly close. What's up with that? You got like Stockholm syndrome or something? Shouldn't you loathe the guy?"
"I do loathe him, just not as much as before. He is an asshole, just like, a less annoying asshole," I say, trying to explain the complication that is my feelings towards Lexis. "Bottom line, not as much hate and not as much trying to escape as there was before. But, he's still an asshole."
Dan just nods. "Alrighty then."
There's a knock on the door, accompanied by the sound of the locks being opened to which Dan shoots up, crossing his arms, his face passive. I stay seated on the floor, smiling up at Chase when he enters.
"Get up," is all he says, glaring at me.
"Yikes, what did I do to deserve all the hostility?" I ask, feigning innocence before looking at the wheelchair and smirking. "Oh, right."
"Get the fuck up!" He growls.
"You see, I would, but I'm kind of in a really comfortable position. Maybe come back later?"
Chase turns to look at Dan, who instantly walks forward and-- looking at me apologetically-- yanks me up.
"I would kill you right now, right this second, but what I've got in store seems like it'd be much more fun to watch." Chase nods at the other guy who was outside the door who then walks forward and unlocks all the chains.
Once that's done, Dan, who's holding me, shoves me forward. "No need to be so rough," I mumble and walk in the direction I'm being shoved in.
There's the sound of muffled shouting and my stomach churns at that, hoping it isn't who I think it is. Dan shoves me forward more, the door the rest of the guys were in coming into sight. The door shoves open and the screaming becomes prominent enough for me to make it out as exactly who I thought it was.
"Lexis?" I call out over the screaming. There's a weak "Faye!" before he's screaming again. "What the fuck are you doing, you fucks! Get away from him!"
I'm shoved forward and into a chair, hands brought behind me and being tied together. Alisha and Flynn aren't there leaving only Lexis to focus on whose state is beyond horrible.
Blood is dripping down his face, staining his top-- his nose being the cause of it. His cheeks are red and swollen, and his head is bowed as if he doesn't have the strength to keep it up. There's a blindfold around his eyes and cuts all down his arms, blood trailing down and onto the floor where there's a huge puddle of red.
