"How've you been? Gotta say, I didn't think you'd find them in time."
"In time for what?" Damon replies, but his question gets answered when Chase turns to his right and shoots, a shattering scream leaving my lips as the bullet hits it's target.
It's like time slows down, my body not going through with the obvious reaction of freaking the fuck out after watching one of your loved ones get shot right in front of you, due to the fact that my brain refuses to accept what I just witnessed.
I can hear screaming, and the second I come to my senses, I realise it's my own voice. My vision is blurry, tears I didn't know I was shedding pouring down my face excessively. Everything and everyone around me finally comes in to focus.
More shots are going off, Alisha and Lexis have been untied, Alisha crying out something unintelligible to Flynn who's deadly still. Lexis comes around to me, untying the ropes and yelling for me to get up, but I don't. I can't.
It's like my whole body's gone numb, like shutting down is it's way of dealing with all this shit. And I don't blame it, God knows if my mind could do the same, it would.
My eyes land on the multiple bodies on the floor, my heart stopping momentarily when I see Chase amongst them. The fucker is dead.
"Damn it, Faye!" Lexis growls, yanking me up and pulling me out of the room. I don't protest at all, only letting out a choked sob when I see the blood all over Flynn's shirt as he's picked up by Damon.
I shut my eyes and try to block out everything. Block out the image of my cousin getting shot, block out the image of his body slumping forward, his eyes slowly falling shut. Block out the screaming in my head telling me he's dead because he can't be.
Flynn can't be dead. I'd just got him back, I'm not losing him again.
There's so much noise. Gunshots are going off repeatedly, shouting, cries of pain and the slumping of bodies to the ground being the only things I can hear.
Death clings to the air like a parasite that just won't let go. And I pray and pray and pray that it hasn't reached Flynn.
I'm lifted up and into a car, Lexis hoisting himself into it after and slamming the door shut. He scoops me up into his arms and I protest weakly, shoving him away with the little strength I have.
He's adamant though, and I just clutch onto his top, burying my face into his chest and letting out the most repulsive cries.
"We're out baby," I hear Lexis says, shushing me, "It's okay. It's all gonna be okay." And I just cry more, wanting above all to believe him but knowing better.
...
I'd fallen asleep somehow, after I'd managed to calm down.
My whole body felt like it was burning, though. Fear, hope, anger all searing through me. I didn't know what to believe; Lexis repeatedly saying it's all going to be fine, that Flynn's going to be fine or the knowing voice in my head telling me he's dead, telling me I'm a fool for hoping.
The sleep I managed to have was far from peaceful. I woke up repeatedly, the thought of a dead Flynn causing me to jolt up every time I so much as shut my eyes.
But Lexis was there. Holding me tighter like he was trying to keep me from physically falling apart, pressing soft kisses to my forehead each time I let out a sniffle or a whimper.
The car stops outside of Damon's building, the car we were following -which turns out to be Damon's - being just in front of us. The doors all fly open and my heart starts beating loud enough that I can hear it and I'm certain Lexis can too from where he's sitting beside me, one of his arms around my shoulders when I see Flynn's body being carried out and taken inside.
