My long strides carried me to the TARDIS. I got inside and continued up to the console. I heard the doors slam behind me, and winced. I did not want to deal with River right now.
"Would you care to explain, husband?" I heard her sharp voice cut through the air.
I sighed. "River, please." My voice was barely above a whisper. She stood there silently for a couple of minutes before storming off to our room.
"We have dinner tonight, sweetie!" She called over her shoulder.
I leaned against the console, letting myself relax and slowly drift off...
I woke with a jolt as someone shook me. "Doctor! Wake up." It was River. How did I manage to fall asleep standing up?
"Oh." I spoke sleepily. River shot me a look. "I'm ready." I defended.
"No you're not. Get changed, Doctor." Oh, that woman. I grumbled off to clean myself off before dinner.
I picked out my best bow tie and smugly walked back to where River was waiting by the door. "I'm waiting." I spoke and avoided meeting her eyes, a slight smirk on my face.
River rolled her eyes. "I'm not complimenting your looks right now, sweetie."
I gasped. "River there is no need to be so rude. At least compliment my bow tie." She may or may not have caught onto my sarcasm as she rolled her eyes and walked out the door without waiting for me.
I ran to catch up with her. "It says here they live on Baker Street." She informed me.
I nodded. "Oh yes, I know where that is." I stopped to look around for a moment. "It's that way! No, sorry it's that way. Actually, hold on a minute. Oh, I've got it's tha-"
River cut me off. "Sweetie, they gave us directions."
Oh. "I don't like maps, they're boring. They take away the fun of getting lost." I complained.
River ignored me completely this time. Also for the rest of the time I was talking. To be honest I couldn't blame her. Half the time I wasn't actually sure what I was saying.
"This is it." She spoke up suddenly. Startling me out of my ramble. I looked at the address. 221B I would remember that. I always enjoyed Sherlock Holmes mysteries. I gave the door a feeble knock. There was no answer.
"Ah, well. No answer. Let's go back." I suggested. I just wanted to be alone in my TARDIS right now.
"Not so fast." She raised her eyebrows at me and knocked harder. Clearly she was implying that I didn't knock hard enough. Cleary she was wrong.
I heard footsteps thundering towards the door. Well it sounded like thunder to me. "Coming!" Called a voice from inside. John's I'd guess.
We were greeted at the door by John, wearing his, as I used to call them 'sexy glasses.' "Hello." He grinned at us. When I was him I loved that grin. Now I hated it.
"Hello." River smiled sweetly at him and when I didn't reply she elbowed me, hard.
"Ow." I gave John a tight smile. "Hi." I glared at River as we entered their house.
"Dinner's in there." John pointed out a room with a table and chairs set up. "It should be ready soon, I'll check up on Rose."
I have him a slight nod and followed River into the dining room. We sat down across the table from two other chairs, presumably for Rose and John. I tried smiling at River. She raise an eyebrow as if to say "It's going to take a lot more than a smile."
My smile faltered. We sat awkwardly in silence for about five more minutes before being joined by John, Rose, and the food.
I looked at our dinner set out on the table in front of us. "It looks delicious." I complemented, looking Rose in the eyes. She seemed to be having a job getting words out.
"Thanks." She mumbled. John glanced at her, clearly worried.
He cleared his throat. "Dig in." He gestured to the food.
Even after piling food into my plate, it seemed a bit empty. Something was missing. I racked my brain to figure it out. Oh, got it. "Do have any fish fingers?" I asked politely.
They both looked bewildered. "Fish fingers?" Rose questioned.
"Yes please. And some custard." I crossed my fingers under the table.
Rose exchanged a look with John. "Uh. Yeah I think so." She went to get up.
"I've got it, Rose." John assured her. She gave him a loving smile. Which he returned happily. I had a weird twitching feeling all of a sudden. This time it wasn't my bow tie. Was I jealous? Ha. That would be like being jealous of myself. What a ridiculous thought.
"So who exactly are you?" River asked Rose. Oh. I shot her a look, trying to get her to stop.
"Rose Tyler." Rose smiled at her. "Rose Smith, actually. I've not quite gotten used to it."
River rolled her eyes. What was her deal tonight? She was never like this. "No, but who are you? To the Doctor I mean." She rephrased her question.
Realization dawned on Rose's face. "No one. Well, not anymore. My Doctor is here with me. Honestly there's no reason to feel threatened." She assured her.
River's eyebrows furrowed. "Who said I felt threatened. I don't. Especially not from you. The Doctor loves me. He's never even mentioned you before. He forgot about you."
Rose's face reddened. "It's not like I expected him to. Honestly though, I'm not sure why he married a woman like you. At least I was nice to other women."
River looked furious. "Doctor!" She looked over at me as if she expected me to jump in on her side.
"I don't want to get involved." I told her sternly.
She raised her eyebrow. "You just don't want to go against her. You would team up with her, wouldn't you?"
I sighed. "River."
"No. I see now. I get it. You're still in love with her." She sneered. "Going to invite her to come traveling with us aren't you. Well what if she doesn't want to go. She's over you now, Doctor"
The look on my face gave everything away. River glared at me, Rose looked shocked, and I noticed John in the doorway looking furious. "Maybe it's best if you leave." He snarled. "It wasn't a good idea in the first place." I nodded, and began to get up. River did the same.
They came to see us off. I looked at Rose for the last time, a tear rolled down my cheek. "Goodbye, Doctor." She spoke, a sad smile on her face.
"Goodbye, Rose Tyler." With a quick glance at River and John, I whispered. "I still love you."
I quickly left the scene with River not even turning back to see Rose's reaction. We headed straight for the TARDIS. I needed something to take my mind off of this.
Sorry for the long wait. I feel so bad!!! I've been extremely busy with school and other activities. I hoped you enjoyed it!!:)8
