It had been a week since Reinette Poisson had started traveling with Rose and the Doctor. It had been a week since Rose had a proper conversation with the Doctor. She was done with it. The one worded answers and him waving off her opinions and questions. She was leaving.
She knew that the Doctor was able to fly the TARDIS telepathically. She thought as hard as possible of Powell Estate, her mum, and simply getting away from the Doctor. She felt a small nudge in her mind, as if the TARDIS was nodding slightly. 'Keep it quiet' she thought.
She entered the console room. Her bags were packed and ready to go. Rose watched the gentle glow of the console in the dark until the TARDIS came to a stop without the normal whooshing. 'Thank you, I'll miss you' she spoke in her mind to the TARDIS. The feeling of a warm smile filled her mind as she stepped outside next to Powell Estate.
Once she was a few steps away she watched the TARDIS dematerialize. She ran up to her mum's flat and opened the door with her key.
"Hello?" Jackie Tyler's sleepy voice filled the dark flat. "Who's there?"
Rose would have been ecstatic to see her mum, if not for the circumstances she came here in. "Mum, it's me." She spoke quietly
"Is the Doctor here too? Because, if he is, I need to have a chat with him about those bananas he bought. I live alone, I do not need thirty bananas." Jackie let out a deep sigh as she finished.
Rose's slight happiness at seeing her mum faded as the Doctor's name was brought into the
conversation. "He's not here." She hoped that Jackie would leave it at that."What happened? Rose, is he hurt? Are you hurt? Did he leave you? Tell me he didn't leave you! Rose, did he leave you?!" Jackie was completely baffled as to what happened.
Rose managed a small smile. "He didn't leave me," Jackie let out a sigh of relief, "I left him." She finished. Jackie's jaw dropped. "Mum, it's fine, I'm fine." As soon as the last two words came out of her mouth she began to feel tears welling up in her eyes.
"Rose what happened?" Jackie ran over to her and crushed her in a hug.
"I don't really want to talk about it, mum." Rose just felt like going to bed, she was so tired. Jackie looked unbelieving but nodding her head slightly.
"We're talking in the morning, Rose." Jackie told her sternly. Rose smiled, she was glad to be back with her mum.
"Thanks mum." She mumbled before headed to her bedroom, she was tired.
Jackie however was not planning on sleeping until she figured out precisely what had happened. She snuck out the front door as quietly as possible and jogged out to where the TARDIS should have been parked. Jackie was devastated to find the TARDIS gone. She ran back to the house to get out of the freezing cold and decided to get some sleep after all.
The Next Morning
The Doctor woke with a start. After his terrible dream last night, he was not leaving anything to chance. He bounded down the hall to Rose's room and peeked his head inside, there was no one in there. He started to go into panic mode as he stepped further into her room and saw that her things were also missing.
The Doctor raced to the control room and immediately set a course for Powell Estate. The TARDIS didn't put up any fuss. She wanted her human back as well.
Reinette wandered into the control room, all the noise had woke her up. "Where are we going, Doctor?" The Doctor turned and looked at her. He didn't have time to talk, he was planning out what he was going to say to get Rose back.
"We're getting Rose back." He snapped.
"Doctor." Reinette laughed. "If she left she most likely doesn't want to come back."
"Reinette." The Doctor warned. He didn't want to even think that he wouldn't get her back. He would.
"I mean she sounded pretty upset, it's goi-"
"You knew?" The Doctor cut in incredulously.
Reinette's eyes widened. "Well." She began.
"Why didn't you tell me?" The Doctor demanded in a low tone.
"I didn't think you would care." She muttered. Her eyes were closed as if bracing herself.
"Reinette." The Doctor spoke softly. She slowly opened her eyes to find that his expression didn't match his gentle tone. His eyes burnt with anger as he raised a hand and pointed at the door. "Go." He said simply. Anger started to creep into his voice. Reinette froze. This wasn't even her time. "OUT!" The Doctor roared. She she took a few steps towards the door before turning around.
"My stuff." She protested.
The Doctor's anger didn't waver for a moment. "Just go." Reinette's eyes narrowed and she stormed out of the TARDIS, slamming the door behind her.
He waited in silence for a few minutes, planning out what he was going to say. Rose wanted an apology, and she deserved a good one. He stepped out of the TARDIS and slowly climbed the steps up to Jackie's flat. Scenarios were flying through his head at lightning speed. What if Rose didn't take him back? Because he knew that was the truth. He wasn't coming here to get Rose back, he was coming here to give himself back to her. He only hoped she would let him.
He knocked on their door. To his horror it was flung open immediately, with an angry Jackie on the other side. "Please let me talk to Rose." He begged. "I'm so, so sorry." He saw Jackie's unwavering expression and continued. "I need her." This time he saw her eyes soften a little.
"She's in her room." Jackie whispered, and stepped aside to let the Doctor in.
The Doctor followed the hall to Rose's bedroom. He paused to take a breath before knocking. "Come in." Her voice called. He smiled as he realized how much he missed her voice in only one day. He stepped into her room and looked to where she was sitting on her bed. Her expression faltered as she saw him. "What're you doing here Doctor."
"Please come back, Rose. I don't want anyone else to travel with me. I need you." He took a few deep breaths, remembering the rest of his speech. "Reinette was really just a distraction. I needed something to keep me from constantly thinking about you. I would wake up, and the first thing I would do is make sure I remembered exactly what you smelled like, because, if I didn't then there was clearly something wrong with me." He let out a short, humourless laugh. "I've tried to be the best I can to you since I regenerated. It's hard though because the harder I try the harder it is to keep my feelings in. But now it doesn't matter, because I love you, Rose Tyler. Please take me back." He had watched her the entire time as her glare had melted into a smile.
She ran over and crushed him in a hug. "I love you too, Doctor."
