The Doctor paced the floor of his room in the TARDIS. He was, as always, deep in thought. This time however, it was not about the Time War or complicated mathematical equations. No. His mind was on Rose Tyler.
As she slept he couldn't help but wonder what it would be like if she let him cuddle up next to her. He wanted to hold her in his arms and frankly, it was scaring him.
Rose had come on board the TARDIS barely a week ago. So what was it about this human that made him feel so guarded.
'Cause now he couldn't get her out of his head. He often found himself relating to sad romance movies and heartbreaking songs.
The Doctor wasn't an idiot. Far from it, really. He could never have Rose Tyler. But he couldn't stop himself from fantasizing about it. Every. Single. Day.
Because it tore him apart to think of having to let her go. He gripped the railing tightly.
The Doctor was getting extremely tired, as he hadn't been sleeping much lately. As he lumbered down the halls towards his bedroom he tripped over a loose cord on the ground. He yelled out a few mild profanities before assessing the damage. As far as he could tell only his ego was bruised.
"Doctor?" He heard Rose's tired voice call from her room. The Doctor tried to banish his earlier thoughts from his mind, without success.
He found himself staring as Rose crept from her bedroom in her pajamas, somehow still looking gorgeous. "You okay?" She asked. "I heard you yelling."
"I'm fine. I just tripped." He waved it off.
Rose narrowed her eyes. "Are you sure? 'Cause you keep going all-" she imitated his slack face staring at her.
The Doctor grinned despite his embarrassment. Unsure of what to say he just made a grunt of agreement. "I'm fine. The only reason I'm staring is because..." He trailed off. "Yeah."
"Okay?" Rose spoke it as more of a question than a statement. The Doctor's explanation wasn't really much of an explanation. "Well I'm back to bed if you're sure you're alright." She looked at him for confirmation.
The Doctor nodded. "I'll be fine." He still couldn't shake the thoughts from his head as he stared after her.
The next morning when Rose wandered into the kitchen the Doctor was staring into space. Not literal space of course, as that was an actual possibility. He jumped and the glazed over look in his eyes disappeared as she pulled out a chair to sit down, making a loud grinding noise on the floor.
The Doctor's eyes widened as she bit into a pear. "Rose Tyler," he scolded, shocked. "No pears in the TARDIS."
Rose rolled her eyes but nonetheless, she chucked her half eaten pear into the trash. "Happy?" She inquired. The Doctor grinned and she smiled along with him. Oh, he was definitely happy. He had Rose Tyler with him.
