Chapter 31

Luke's POV

I get out of a meeting to a voicemail on my phone

"Hey do you wanna go out and get food with the others?" Mikey asks smiling at me

"Uh yeah sure, I'll meet you guys at the car" I smile small at him and he nods

"Alright, see ya" he pats my back and then leaves. I look down at my phone and get ready to play the voicemail, I hold it up to my ear and then press play.

A voicemail from Madelyn.

My heart stops

My heart aches as I hear her crying, she found my YouTube.. God I should've told her.. I'm such an idiot.. She sounds so broken.. This is never what I wanted.. As the voicemail ends, I have tears streaming down my cheeks, I pull my shirt up and wipe them off, my phone goes off and I look at the caller I.D, it's Kirby.

"Yeah?" I say answering

"Madelyn's in the hospital, Luke, it's really serious.." She says, I can hear her crying.

"No. Im on my way." I hang up the phone and run down the stairs as fast as I can and out the doors, I run to the car where Mikey and the others are laughing and smiling

"I need to leave. Back to college. Now. It's Madelyn." I whisper to Mikey

"Of course.. Go bro.." Mikey says, I nod and call an uber, the uber arrives and I jump in quickly

"I need to go to the airport, please" I say trying to keep calm, even though it's about impossible. The uber takes off and i tap my foot impatiently.

Kirby's POV

I pace around the waiting room as madelyn's mom and brother rushes in, her mom is crying hard wanting to know what happened and if she will be okay, her brother looks shocked and nervous, I walk over to them both slowly

"I -.. I can tell you.. Just please come sit with me.." I say trying to force a smile through the pain, they nod and follow me to a few open chairs across the waiting room, we all take a seat.

"I walked in.. In to her dorm, this afternoon, asking her if she wanted to watch a movie, I found her on the floor, she was .. She was just laying there.. Lifeless.. " I say as I start to cry hard.

"She's going to be ok.. Isn't she?" Her brother looks at me with fear, clear in his eyes.

"We have to hope so.." I tell him

"No.. She's not leaving me like dad! She's not!" He stands up and walks out quickly, I stand up to follow him but her mom tells me to let him go, I sigh and take a seat back down.

Me and Madelyn's mom and brother have been sitting in the waiting room for what seems like hours, we watch as the clock goes by, and by. Still no news.

"Madelyn's parents?" A doctor comes in.

"That's me!" Madelyn's mom stands up quickly and so do me and her brother, we walk over to the doctor and the doctor looks at us with sadness filled in his eyes.

"We did all that we could, but she had brain cancer, stage 4, it attacked her.. Quickly.. The quickest we've ever seen.. But.. She's gone.. I'm sorry" the doctor says and I think my whole world fell apart.

"No.. No!" Her mom cries begging the doctor that it isn't true, I quickly grab ahold of her brother pulling him into a hug tightly as we cry with each other.

"She's in a better place.." I whisper to him, even though I don't want to believe it myself..

Soon Madelyn's mom and brother are calmed down, so I step outside of the waiting room, I look up at the ceiling and cry

"Why would you take her away?"

"Why would you do this?"

"She's my best friend"

I hit the wall with my fist and lean my head against the wall crying hard, the pain is unbearable.. Luke.. No.. Luke.. I rush back into the waiting room, as I do, I see Luke rush into the hospital l, I run over to him quickly, very quickly

"Where is she? She's okay right? Is she in recovery? Can I see her?" He tries pushing past me, looking around.

"Luke.. Luke.. Stop! Luke!" I grab a hold of his shoulders looking him in the eyes. He looks me in the eyes frowning confused

"It's to late.. She's gone.. I'm so sorry.." I say and watch his face fall from a determined look to a broken look

"She's .. She's what? No! No.." He starts crying and I pull him into a hug rubbing his back gently

"I know.. I know it hurts.." I tell him quietly as I cry as well as him.

"No! No!! She's not!" He pushes out of the hug and away from me running up to the doors which lead to the hospital rooms

"Luke!" I rush over to him and grab his arm pulling him back as I cry

"She's not! She wouldn't leave me! She wouldn't do this!" He sobs hard and I let go of him and watch him as he punches the wall and slides down the wall crying with his head in his hands

"She's not, she's not gone" he mumbles throughout the tears. I bend down beside him and rub his hand with mine and slide my hand into his as I cry as well.

Luke's POV

This feeling I'm feeling, it's the hardest thing I've ever felt, it's as if my whole entire world, just crumbled in pieces. I don't even know what happened, yet I can't even take the fact she's gone. I won't.

After a while of sitting on the ground crying with Kirby, I wipe my eyes and look at her, she's sleeping with her head on my shoulder, I gently wake her up

"Hey.." She looks at me

"What happened?" I ask her

"Stage 4 brain cancer.." She tells me and that makes my heart hurt even more

"But how could they not tell that before? How could it have done it that fast?" I hear my voice keep Cracking and I try to contain it but I can't. I just can't.

"They said it was the fastest they've ever seen.." She tells me and stands up, she holds her hand out for me, I take it and she helps me stand up, I look at her hands and they remind me of Madelyn's , I pull away quickly and look away quickly. She's gone

The girl I fell in love with

She's gone.

She's dead
