Chapter Two : A Rough Night

Gwen had awoken in the middle of the night restless about the days events. As she checked the time it read 1:00 am in bright red numbers to which she sighed before getting out of bed. the night was chilly so Gwen had dressed in her robe to wander about the manor as she always had done in a restless night. as she walked through the halls silently humming to herself while counting the windows. After which she made her way to Slade's study which was since then being used by Jade for Resistance work. Gwen creaked open the door to find her mother asleep at Slade's desk as she had always done. slipping a  cover over her mother Gwen continued her walk through the manor lost in her thoughts. She had thought mostly of her father if he was alive and where he would likely be. her walk had lead to the main foyer where  a portrait of Slade hung leisurely on the main wall. approaching it Gwen felt calm and relaxed in its presence. I miss you father ,mom misses you we both do I just hope your alive Gwen said talking to the painting. Just then Gwen heard something approaching her to which she became startled. Turing around Gwen saw Naga who had come to join her to which she became relived. Oh Naga you startled me girl Gwen said rubbing Naga behind her ear causing her to wag her tail. Do you miss him too Gwen said to which Naga looked at the portrait of Slade before uttering a low whine. As do I girl Gwen said patting Naga on the head to which Naga had accidentally knocked over the portrait. Naga you have to be more careful Gwen said before she preceded to hang it back up on the wall. As she did Gwen noticed that a particular section of wall behind the portrait didn't exactly match the rest of it which caused her to lift her brow. What could this be Gwen said examining the wall to which she revealed a hidden compartment. How long was this here Gwen said in surprise at the discovery. Inside the compartment where a multitude of old papers and documents which where all perched up by a fairly rectangular object covered in cloth. taking notice of the object Gwen took it and returned the portrait to as it had been. Returning to her room with Naga Gwen had begun to uncover the object. Taking of the cloth revealed a semi used book of some kind it had looked weathered with several spots of the cover faded. opening the book Gwen began reading its contents  which talked about wars long past the observatory and the pieces of Eden and many other tales. Gwen's eyes had truly opened when she had realized what she had now in her possession to which she sat back in shock. Naga do you realize what this is , this is my father's journal, Slade's journal Gwen had said to which Naga barked excited. I can't believe it  mom and the resistance have been looking for this for years and it has been here the whole time. Gwen said as she flipped through its pages. I wonder if yes look girl here it is Gwen said sitting next to Naga on the floor. "November twelve a day I will not forget the day of my true betrayal" Gwen said repeating what she had read in the journal. November twelve that was day that he disappeared Gwen said reading the book for more information. As she read more of it's entries she saw that there was an entry of her in the book. "My dearest daughter Gwen I am sorry that I cannot see you grow and develop but should you need aid you must go where I have gone and know that I will forever love you until the end of time your father ". Gwen said closing the book. She had become overcome with feelings and wiping a tear from her eye continued to read the book. After the passage there had been some language written that she didn't understand to which she looked confused. There's something here but its written in a language that I can't understand Gwen said annoyed. Father what could this mean Gwen said glancing once more at the unreadable page to which the word "Ash" appeared at the very bottom corner. Ash? like burning a fire ? Gwen said to herself confused to which she had taken a bit to think. After a long pause to think Gwen had returned her thoughts to the day before when the women known as Ashley had come to the manor. When mom hugged her she called her Ash as in Ashley Gwen said thinking of the name to which she glanced at the word Ash on the page. Do you suppose that this Ashley and the Ashley from yesterday are the same person Gwen asked Naga to which she barked. Yes she must be we have to see her about this tomorrow but we can't tell mom about this she would flip out Gwen said to Naga to which Na walked out the room. Closing the journal and tucking it under her mattress Gwen had returned to bed that in the hoped that Ashley would know what the strange writing meant.
