Chapter Twelve : The Night Flight

Gwen awoke with a start to the plane bumping to which she glanced out the window to see it was night time, she looked over to see John sleeping in a different place then where he was before snoring loudly. Clutching the journal in her hands still she made her way to the cockpit where Ashley was still flying the plane where Gwen had noticed small bags under her eyes as she saw Gwen enter. Hey there kid  how'd you sleep? she asked while turning and smiling before returning her gaze, pretty decent not exactly a soft bed how long did I sleep for? she asked sitting in the co pilots seat. Oh just a few hours I had already gotten rest while John flew and he settled down not too long ago Ashley said as Gwen leisurely read  the journal as she continued, Uh listen Gwen I just wanted to thank you for earlier you know for saving my life. Ashley had said this  to which Gwen glanced up at her, No problem Ashley we're all family and family look out for one another she said to which she laughed. Ha! you remind me more and more of your father each day Ashley said smiling to which Gwen scooted closer to her, what was he like? my father I mean she asked to which Ashley looked over to Gwen.  Arthur? heh what can I say he was the greatest of us all he was strong and wise he always put others before himself he well , was a natural born leader she said to which Gwen sighed. He never talked to me about these things he seemed always troubled she said to which Ashley's face changed, Gwen you must know while we are the bringers of peace in this new world there came a price Ashley said to which Gwen looked on. We are Assassins and we killed people a lot of people and true they were very bad people but the world didn't see it that way, we were hunted for it and when you were born Slade and Jade both agreed to put that life behind them. They wanted you to have a free life a life of a normal girl Ashley said to  which Gwen looked out the window, How were they in battle mom and dad? Gwen asked to which Ashley uttered a chuckle. Oh boy fighting alongside them was well it was a really amazing experience she said grinning as Gwen replied, really? I have never seen mom and dad fight before they were pretty relaxed Gwen said to which Ashley looked over. They were so fluent in battle the way they moved and used their attacks I once saw Slade take out an entire patrol and Jade nobody was more better with a rifle then her she finished, Mom used to use a rifle? now I would have given anything to see that Gwen joked to which Ashley laughed. Yeah it was quite the sight it was best sharpshooter I've ever seen she continued, Ashley what exactly happened on the night Soto betrayed dad Gwen asked to which Ashley remained silent before speaking. We could have never expected what would happen to have happened, I along with your mother  were in the courtyard we were talking about expanding the island's defenses when it happened she said as Gwen listened in.  Several explosions and the emergency alarm rang Slade came on the emergency signal saying somehow the Island's security had been breached. That was Impossible right? how could that happen? Gwen asked to which  a voice echoed from the back of the plane, Soto it was him somehow he hacked through the master terminal and shut off emergency protocols John said walking into the cockpit. you were there too? Gwen asked to which John sat down and quietly nodded. Yeah  we all ran to the Citadel Slade was rallying the men to defend the shoreline but it was a massacre John said while Gwen sat back in her seat, We were outnumbered didn't even stand a chance the moment the Templars reached shore  numerous brothers, and sisters fell and Soto was leading the attack Ashley said as John continued. Slade knew we couldn't win the fight he told us to make for the Dawson while he confronted Soto so we along with Jade and an infant you ran to the ship, it was already preparing to depart he said as Gwen glanced at her hands. We had thought Slade would have been killed yet he made it somehow he made it on the Ship, and we left barely escaping with our lives Ashley said finishing the story. What happened to Syracuse Island? she asked to which John responded, taken by the bastards the weapon systems once used to protect us now used against us he said to which Ashley glanced forward. The fall of Syracuse had dealt a massive blow to the Assassins, not only did we lose half of our weapons and home but we also had lost most of our support Ashley said to which John spoke. Nobody came to help us not one soul Slade was furious he exclaimed, how the Assassins were always there to protect them but when it came down to it they abandoned us he said through gritted teeth. After the island had been lost we had regrouped at a small hidden base, where Slade was blamed for the assault Ashley said to which Gwen angered slammed the journal on the plane's seat. How could they say that?! he couldn't have known, of Soto's doing she said to which John nodded. I agree after that Slade and Jade had walked out saying the Bolin's would no longer support the Order's efforts after which the Assassin Order as we knew it, had fell with the island he said finishing the story. Gwen had been overcome by numerous feelings and emotions she had finally learned of why her father left her and the true nature of what happened that night, are you going to be alright kid? John asked placing a hand on Gwen's shoulder to which she responded, yeah I'll be alright just need to mediate a bit  she said to which Ashley responded. Alright we'll be landing in a few hours so take as much time as you need she said, sure thing and thank you guys for telling me this it means a lot Gwen said before retiring to the back of the plane. Do you think we should have told her this? John asked to which Ashley answered, Yeah she needed to know deserved to know after all. She shows more of him in her day by day she deserved to know what we lost in order to know what finding Arthur will really mean, when we eventually rebuild we need hope like that especially in these times I believe that. With Ashley finishing her thoughts They had continued their flight to Scotland.
