Ragnor couldn't believe what he was hearing. Looking the chains over that held the prisoners, he could see how they managed to escape. But what he didn't understand is how they did it without the soldiers knowing about it.
"How did you fools manage to not hear them escaping!" Ragnor cursed looking at the four soldiers. The way these chains were pulled from the wall would of made a lot of noise! And why were the gates on the cages not locked?"
"We thought since they were shackled, they wouldn't have any way of getting out of the cages." One of the soldiers said with a look of fear.
"You thought! You thought! I don't pay you to think, I pay you to get things done!
Ragnor's arm instantly turns into a sword made of Ice and he swings it down towards the soldier's neck slicing his head clean off. As the head rolls away the soldier's body falls to the ground limp.
"I give you one simple task to guard a couple of petty prisoners and you failed me! Lord Ragoul is not going to be too happy upon me returning with no prisoners! Anyone else have anything to say?"
The three remaining soldiers with fear in their eyes just shook their heads.
"Good grab your shit, we're leaving!" Ragnor said while walking away.
As Martin stepped through the doorway made up of the fairies, he couldn't help but appreciate the beauty and mystical creatures. They were so tiny and fragile, but also so beautiful and mysterious. It was one of the most amazing things he had ever witnessed in his entire life. After he was completely through the doorway the fairies began to fly away little by little till they were all gone. Martin turned and headed closer to the dying tree. Looking at the tree he whispered to himself, what am I suppose to do? How am I suppose to save you? He walked up to the tree and gently put his hand on it. To his amazement he could feel a heartbeat as if the tree were alive. It is true, this is Azura, her true form hidden behind a tree waiting for someone to break her curse. All the sudden Martin gasped and pulled his hand back. He had felt her pain and knew for certain she was dying.
His heart was aching for the poor girl locked away inside, with her only hope standing before her with no clue on what to do to save her. Martin noticed that the tree was being strangled by some type of thorny vines. So he thought he would at least cut the vines away thinking it would slow the process. He reached down and pulled the knife from its sheath and began cutting the vines. After a few minutes he had managed to free the tree of all the vines. Now what he asked himself? Martin sat and tried to think of what he could do for hours not coming up with anything. Looking back at the tree he saw that it was almost completely bare of all its bark. Putting his hand on the tree again to feel its heartbeat he could tell it was barely beating.
Then he heard a soft voice say, "Kill me. Kill me."
Not sure if he had heard correctly, Martin whispered. "What did you say?"
Again the voice came in faintly. "Please kill me."
A tear rolled down Martin's face as he realized what Azura was asking him to do. Still with his hand on the tree he could tell she was not going to last much longer. From the pain he felt earlier when touching the tree he could see why she was asking him to end it, to end her suffering. Still, he didn't want to kill her, he was supposed to save her life, not end it.
Again the soft faint voice whispered. "Please kill me, Please."
Martin took a moment, closing his eyes, pondering on what he was about to do. Then, with no further hesitation he pulled out his knife and plunged it deep into the tree. Where he had stuck the knife blood began pouring out slowly running down. With tears rolling down his face, he backed away and stumbled to the ground crying. What have I done, what have I done, he whispered to himself over and over with his hands to his face. Martin felt a hand on his shoulder, turned around to see Adal and Kyra behind him.
