The whole swamp looked to be frozen in solid ice, which was weird because it was warm out. There were mangled bodies scattered all over in every direction. Torn limbs and carcasses covered the grounds of the murky plateau, they too were covered in ice. It was a good thing though, because the foul smell the place already had didn't need rotting bodies to add to it. It was difficult to tell where the ground was from the water, making it more dangerous for anyone who dared to cross.
Martin looked to the others. "What could of caused such a catastrophic change in the temperature, to freeze a whole swamp?"
"Magic, it is some kind of magic." Said Adal.
"Is it safe to cross?" Asked Mien.
As he scanned the swamp, Adal said. "I am not sure, but we will have to cross no matter what. Besides, the ice will be the least of our worries."
"Yeah, I have a bad feeling about this." Martin said. "It will make it difficult if we have to run."
"Let's go, while there is still daylight." Said Solana, not wanting to waste anymore time.
The others agreed and the five of them headed across the frozen swamp. As they made their way across, they found it was harder than they first anticipated. Most of the swamp was uneven, causing it to be more slippery. A few times, Martin had to grab onto one of them to keep from falling, which in turn, caused them all to slip and fall, earning him scowls and lectures. It was a slow process, but they had finally managed to make it half way across.
"Why is it the rest of us are freezing and you don't look cold at all, yet you're not even wearing a shirt?" Asked Mien.
"Yeah, why is that?" Replied Adal. "And where is the stab wound you got from Ragnor?" He said with a look of surprise.
Martin looked down at his side and then back to the others. "It must be part of my magic. It's a long story. I will tell you about it when we reach your place." He said looking at Adal. "There are a few things I need to ask you about it anyways."
"Okay, my boy." Replied Adal.
As they moved further through the swamp they spotted something fairly large encased in ice. When they got close enough to see what it was they noticed it was the Lich frozen solid. They all jumped back a bit, startled at recognizing what was standing before them.
"Is he still alive?" Asked Azura with a look of concern.
"It is hard to tell." Replied Adal as he poked at the ice.
Martin spotted a few droplets of water slowly sliding down the side of the frozen Lich.
"Umm, guys, we need to go. We need to go now!" He said forcefully. "The ice is melting!"
The others looked to Martin and without question started to head for the edge of the swamp. As they were moving across the ice, they all noticed the ground started to melt becoming unstable.
"Run!" Shouted Solana. "It's a trap!"
Before they could run the ground under them collapsed and they fell into the water. As panic broke out between all of them splashing and kicking, trying to stay above water they heard the laugh they all were hoping not to hear. They spun in the direction of the Lich and saw he was casting some sort of spell. All around them they could hear the pops and clicks of bones from the dead corpses that arose from the frozen slumber they were once in. Death has awakened, and was headed straight for them.
Martin knew if they stayed in the water, there would be no chance of them escaping. He spun around in every direction, looking for a way out that wouldn't lead them to their doom. He spotted an area that would give them their best chance and told everyone to follow him. Even though he knew they would have to face a few dead soldiers once they got out they had no choice. Once he swam to the edge the water wasn't as deep and he could stand up.
