The man looked up in shock to the sound of someone whispering behind the tree. "Can I be next?"
He spun his head in every direction, trying to spot the one who spoke, but didn't see anyone.
"Who's there?" He whispered back, hoping it was one of his comrades.
"Does it matter?" The voice called back. "I just want to know if I can be next?"
"Show yourself and I will let you know."
"I would rather not." The voice replied.
The soldier was beginning to get angry at the man behind the tree. He couldn't focus on his task with this man lurking in the shadows.
"Don't worry bitch, this isn't over yet." He whispered to Azura before getting up.
The soldier quickly grabbed his pants and put them back on. He then unsheathed his sword and looked towards the direction the voice had come from.
"This is your last chance to reveal yourself or face the consequences." The soldier spat.
This time the voice didn't respond. Instead the small figure just stepped out from behind the tree. Seeing the size of the small old man made the soldier almost chuckle. An evil grin then found its way to his lips as he eyed the small man.
"Well, well, well, look at what we have here. A little ole man trying to cash in on the spoils of war."
Adal raised an eyebrow. "Little? Who you calling little? Oh, you must be talking about your manhood."
The soldiers eyebrows drew down as he raised his sword. "You will pay for that insult imp!"
Adal took off through the woods, hoping the soldier would follow him. Sure enough the soldier was right on his heels. Weaving around trees and jumping over small brush Adal ran as fast as he could. The soldier's long legs were too much of an advantage, making him gain ground quickly on Adal. As they rounded a tree the soldier ran face first into an invisible wall, knocking him to the ground and dropping his weapon. Martin quickly drew his knife and stuck it to the man's throat.
"Don't worry. You will enjoy this, I promise." Martin spat at the soldier.
Without further hesitation, Martin slit the soldier's throat with his knife. The man gasped and gurgled as he slowly bled out. Then the two of them headed back to the camp to free Azura. When they made it back to her they quickly untied her from her restraints and the three of them quietly disappeared in the woods. Once they felt they were far enough away they found a safe spot to stop and rest.
"I am so sorry you had to go through all that Azura." Martin said with sympathy in his eyes as he hugged her.
She looked up at him. "It's okay, it wasn't your fault. I know you did your best."
"That is what I am sorry about. I should of been able to do more to protect you. I promise I will never let that happen to you ever again."
She smiled. "I know."
Martin couldn't help but smile back at her. His heart began to pound as he looked into her eyes. At that moment she was so stunningly beautiful in her frail state it was mesmerizing. He felt a small force wielding him to lean in and kiss her. He began to slowly lean in closer when Adal spoke and made him snap out of it.
"We can't go back to my place. They know where it is now. Besides, we won't get anywhere hanging around there anyways."
"I agree. Plus, we need to get Azura some new clothes. Maybe we can head to Feverbrook?"
