I was sitting at the edge of the dock trying to figure out what I should do. The college already said that I could get my diploma and certification, but I didn't have to walk. My family didn't even come to see me because Lexy was graduating and that was what was important. Sighing, I dipped my toes into the water and laid back. Oddly enough, it was a really clear night, and very calming.

The last I really remembered was Davey offering me a place to stay because of a fight with my old roommate. So, I knew for sure where I was living and with who, I knew who I was supposed to be dating, but why was I even here. In California, that is. I didn't belong out in the sun and where everyone around me was every man's fantasy. I was just me and I was pretty sure that most of the relationship between Ashes and I was solely in my head. I wasn't like the girls out here, and I knew I saw some of his high school pictures, he was happy. LIke not just a fake smile that he seemed to put on, but really truly happy. I was only second best because the first girl wasn't around anymore.

"Amanda!" I didn't bother when Becca yelled for me and I saw both my sisters sit down next to me. "What's going on?"

"What's to say? I don't belong here, I told you both that so many times. I'm going back to Pennsylvania. This isn't my home."

"It is now. We're here, and that's home." Kayla told me.

"That's different. I have to leave, it'll be better anyways." I said with a sigh. "Besides, I'm second best here. I'm not the best at the hospital, I'm not the top of my class, and to top it off, he's only showing interest in me because the first choice isn't here."

"First off, you are the best at what you do and you know that. Second, yes, the boy can be an idiot, he should be blond sometimes..."

"Like, emphasize the blond part. He dyes his hair doesn't he?" Kayla interrupted Becca. Okay, that made me laugh as I sat up.

"No, Kayla, he's naturally that color of hair....he just likes to sit around while Needlz dyes his. I think the fumes go to his head." We all laughed for a little while.

"Anyways.." Becca said. "He may be an idiot sometimes like wait an entire day to call us when you're in the hospital, but you know you're not second best to him. Sure, somethings will remind him of Mary, but trust me, you're the one."

"How do you know that?" I challenged.

"His parents." Kayla started.

"Yeah, they came to visit you at least once a day. They kept saying they hoped that you'd make it." Becca continued.

"You're the one who can destroy him, we never saw a guy react like that." Kayla finished.

"Like what?" I was really only curious.

"If someone came by to say he had to go home to eat and change, he looked like we were holding a gun to his head." Becca said. "It was killing him to see you in there."

I only shrugged at that and laid back down. I felt drained again, but I wasn't going to tell them. Sure, at some point I'd be forced back to Davey's place, but I wanted to stay outside as long as possible. Since I moved here about two years ago, the sky was never this clear. I was calmed more so than sitting in a dark room listening to my music. "We should go back, but I really am leaving by the end of the week I don't need to walk to get my diploma."

"Yes you do!" They said at once.

"We'll see." I said absently before jumping into the car and letting Becca drive. I was in back just hoping to fade into the background, but as usual that one didn't happen at all. They forced me to talk, making up random converstaions until we got back to the apartment. "Hey..sorry about that." I said to everyone who was standing around.

"It's fine, your boyfriend is just blonder than me." Needlz said. "And I bleach my hair, so the fumes should be going to my brain not his."

"He's blonder than me and I'm the natural." Davey said with a laugh.

I couldn't help but laugh being that I had helped Needlz once or twice with his hair and the bleach was horrible to deal with. "What did you do this time?" I asked as I went to sit next to Ashes, I didn't want him to know I was planning on leaving no matter what anyone told me.

"I apparently didn't realize you rode horses a whole lot and went to the beach with them. Needlz did." He said with a small shrug and it was painfully obvious that he was debating whether or not he should even touch me.

"Well, usually when I got upset during the day, you were at band practice so instead of bothering you, I decided to just ride mainly. I mean, horses are very calming and Esther allows me to ride her horse when need be." I said with a shrug and leaned against him. A part of me felt completely at home, while the other part of me questioned everything. Maybe it was just the accident, but it worried me because I hadn't trusted anyone in such a long time.

"Why don't we go ahead to bed? I'm sure you're tired and you wanted to stop by the studio with us since Ash wanted to read over your lyrics."

"Wait...who? And how did she find my lyrics?"

"Ummm...you were kinda out of it when you said to help you get them recorded."

"So you gave it to Ash Costello?" I questioned. "You're amazing." I smiled  and rested my head on his shoulder.

"Yep." Davey said right before I fell asleep on the couch.
