Hugo had grown up since the last time the royal family had arrived in the Red Moon Pack territory. His fur had become a darker shade of brown with deep red hues. His eyes shone even more brightly than before because this year he knew, this was the year he would get to run with them. But what got him even more thrilled was the fact that he would get to run with his princess, princess Narima. His determination had pushed him to his limits as he became the strongest wolf in his pack. He had become the fastest wolf and the best hunter. Zed did not even stand a chance against him since his family became the laughingstock of the pack. He had proven everyone wrong that even the adopted orphan of the pack could become someone important.
As he walked up to Kane, he stood tall and proud of his accomplishments. Everyone that looked at him could not believe he used to be the runt all the pups made fun of.
"Are you ready, Hugo?" Kane asked a hint of pride in his voice.
"Yes sir."
"I'm so proud of you, Hugo." Kane smiled at him.
"Thank you, sir." Hugo bowed in respect. Kane had become more of a father figure to him in the past few years, he deeply appreciated all the efforts Kane did for him. When Hugo had spoken to him about the way the other pups had been treating him, Kane took it upon himself to help Hugo. Kane did not appreciate the idea of harassment in his pack.
"You're going to do great." Kane turned to face the direction the royals would arrive with Hugo. "Just be careful. We've had quite a few vampire sightings. Stay within the pack borders."
Hugo simply nodded as he caught the faint scent of the visiting wolves on the late spring air. Soon after, a howl announcing the arrival of the royals rang out. Everyone turned to see them once again. Hugo could not wait to see his beloved princess Narima. He would still dream of her every night and every dream ended the same, her playing with his pups. He longed to see her face, see her smile. Those dreams were what gave him the motivation to become the best hunter of the pack. He wanted nothing more than to make Narima proud.
As the royals paraded through the Red Moon Pack, Hugo noticed that High Alpha Bandit and his mate were not present this time.
"Where's Alpha Bandit?" Hugo whispered to Kane, his eyes still searching for the black pelt of his princess.
"I'm not entirely sure." He answered looking a little uneasy. "The Alphas hardly ever let us know beforehand who is going to show up and who isn't. These hunts are just a cultural trip for the prince and princess. To help them understand their subjects if you will."
A large dark greying wolf stepped forward and cleared his throat causing him to have a coughing fit. A couple of the guards that arrived with them rushed to his side only to be shoved away. He took a few raspy breaths and glared at the guards.
"I got this." The grey wolf spoke with a slight irritation in his voice. He cleared his throat again and smiled at the crowd gathered around him.
"Greetings, Red Moon. Some of you may remember who I am while the younger generation may not even know me at all." He looked around a bit before continuing. "I was the former High Alpha before I gave the title to my only son Bandit. I am now known as Elder Alpha Haze. And I have the utmost pleasure to present to you my grandpups. Prince Boxer, princess Narima and the youngest, newest addition, princess Cisne."
The Red Moon wolves voiced their appreciation of being granted a visit from the former High Alpha. The older wolves bowed in respect as the younger adults followed their lead. Soon, everyone fixed their gaze on the newest princess and catch their breath. She had a pelt the color of sun-bleached bone, a striking color difference to those of her siblings. Her eyes were a beautiful marigold orange yellow, matching the wildflowers that grew within the pack territory. She was smaller than her siblings and with the three of them standing next to each other, it was a sight no one would forget.
