Narima had been living with Jack for five years and she had just turned sixteen last month.

She had mastered her ability to change forms by channeling her anger towards her mother. It helped to think about taking revenge on her after all the years she had tortured her day after day for her amusement.

It had been six years since she had left her home in the royal castle and she could not be more relieved to finally be away from Minx's harassment. She missed her father and her grandparents but here with Jack, she was happy. She could run however long she wanted, swim whenever she pleased, and at night she would sleep curled up on the floor of Jack's bedroom.

Jack had been taking Narima into the mortal town nearby plenty of times, keeping her close by his side. Jack would loosely tie a rope around her neck to ensure she would not get lost. He constantly reminded Narima of the bad mortals that showed up once a month to take young girls away from their families, never to be seen again. Jack was afraid of losing her to them.

As the years went by, the rotting smell in Jack's blood had started to disappear. Jack had never noticed but Narima was glad she could help him get better. She had come up with the brilliant idea of feeding him her blood to heal him little by little. She had learned to love and appreciate everything he did for her even when he did not have to sacrifice anything for her. She could see her blood working when he would get up in the morning without complaining about his joints and when he would accompany her on hunts, he no longer became winded as fast as before.

"Narima!" Jack called out. "Come inside, dinner is ready."

Narima glanced up at the darkening orange sky. The sun turned the sky a fiery orange, signaling a bright blue sky the next day. She smiled to herself as she thought of all the nights she would sleep curled up next to her window watching the sunset and rise. But then she missed sleeping under the night sky surrounded by her father and Hugo.

Jack had made it a rule that she needed to sleep indoors. The other mortals in the town were becoming suspicious of Jack and his new pet. They would sneak near their home at night, trying to see if they could figure out what had happened to Jack that he was now in nearly perfect health and caring for a large animal.

Every night Narima could smell them coming closer. She was beginning to think it was time for her to leave and take Jack with her, but she did not know where to go. Jack had shown her a map of the world, showing her where they were. She only knew that her pack was in Noram and that she was in Ropun. How she had managed to get there without a portal was still something she was trying to figure out. She regretted not paying much attention to her father when he would speak about the other packs in the world, so she did not know if there were any other wolves around for her to find asylum in.

Narima ran to the porch, jumped up the steps, and crashed through the front door. She shook her body as she laughed a wolfish laugh and shifted into her mortal form with ease. Jack had already set up the sheet for her to change into the mortal clothing that he had set aside for her. Narima took a deep breath and inhaled the scent of the deer she had hunted earlier cooking on the stove for Jack to eat. She had grown accustomed to smelling Jack's horrible cooking, but she did not want to mention it to him since she knew it would make him anxious to please her.

"How close are they now?" Jack asked as he placed a bowl full of steaming vegetable soup in his place and a slab of meat in front of her.

Narima picked up her notepad and pen and turned to face Jack. She quietly wrote down her answer as he waited patiently for her to finish.

About a hundred meters out. They get closer each day but they're afraid of what they will find.

Jack had taught her how to read and write, something her dad had not taught her because she had refused to shift forms. Before she could even hold the pen correctly, Jack only called her Shadow for that was she had become to him, his second shadow. She would follow him everywhere and do as he would do. She learned quickly how to act like a mortal and mimicked everything he did. He taught her many things about werewolves too including things she did not know about.
