"Wow..." Hugo whispered as he stared up at the night sky bathed in light.

"The Aurora Borealis." Bandit stood next to Hugo watching the lights dance in the night sky. "Beautiful, isn't it?"

Hugo could only nod as he followed the thin streaks of color waving above his head.

"Other creatures have their theories behind the cause of it but we wolves believe it's our ancestors trying to walk on the earth again." Bandit looked up at the sky as the colors danced among the stars. "But of course, it's been explained by those who study the stars and sky." Bright blues and greens shifted up and down. Yellows and pinks mixed to create a rainbow show just for them.

Narima rudely shoved past them as she continued to walk forward following the trail the wolves had left in the snow. She growled low as Hugo tripped sideways. A few yards ahead of them was a group of five white wolves waiting for them to catch up.

"Come on, let's keep moving." Bandit pushed forward, shadowing his daughter. "We don't want to get caught in a blizzard."

Hugo just nodded and followed Bandit. They continued after the white wolves to their new den site. Hugo was surprised when he learned that the northern wolves did not have a permanent den. Bandit had explained to him that they were nomadic, following their prey wherever it took them. They had seasonal den sites, leaving them to make the trek to their winter den.

Now, they were heading farther north into polar bear territory. Hugo kept an eye on Narima since she stood out in the white landscape. Her black fur was only masked with a few snowflakes, but she could still be seen for miles. The white wolves laughed at her for even attempting to hide from their prey. Their laughs were silenced after a stern glare from Bandit.

"Um... Bandit?" Hugo walked faster to match pace with the alpha. "Do you even trust these wolves?"

"The Silverstone wolves aren't very friendly, but they do keep their promises." Bandit explained as he watched the wolves carefully. "Their alpha Starborn is the best alpha they've had, and he is the last one they will need."

"What do you mean the last?"

"Every wolf pack has a family that was born with alpha blood, much like your pack has Kane as an alpha. Starborn was the youngest son of the previous alpha for the Silverstone wolves. Everyone else died in a polar bear attack." Bandit shook his head in disappointment. "It seems like the polar bears are getting stronger each year and our wolfkind is being killed off. I'm assuming that by the end of this year, the white wolves will no longer exist in the northern regions."

"I'm assuming you'll be wrong." Hugo had stopped in his tracks and was staring at the sight in front of him.

By the light of the waning moon and the northern lights, Hugo could see at least fifty white wolves. Narima was at the center of the crowd with everyone staring at her black coat. The young pups had never seen another color coat before and were mesmerized by it. Hugo could see that she was getting uncomfortable, so he rushed to her side right before she started growling. He did not want anyone else to get close to her.

"Hey... Shhh... It's ok. They just like your fur color." Hugo nuzzled Narima gently to calm her down, enjoying their closeness. "They're not going to hurt you."

Bandit had to force his way towards them as the pups saw more colors different from the boring white that surrounded their world. They would crawl under him and blend in with his belly but as they pressed closer to Narima he could see her beginning to panic.

"Alright, let's go find Starborn." Bandit said a little frustrated as he pushed his way through the growing crowd.

The Silverstone wolves had built their dens into snow mounds invisible from a distance. They blended in so well to their surroundings that even Hugo with his enhanced sight had trouble telling one wolf apart from his neighbor. Their only differences were their eyes colors with ranged from yellow to green to brown. As Hugo looked around, he could only see snow and more snow. There were no trees in sight much less prey.
