Reyna was becoming frustrated as she paced around the leopard camp. Narima was not eating enough and Gio was not allowing anyone to force her. And even then, when she did eat, the baby would always reject the food, making Narima vomit. Narima was beginning to look unhealthy and thin.
"Narima child please eat more." Reyna pleaded with her. "You need to be strong for the birth."
"She's only five months along." Gio pointed out, annoyed with Reyna. "She has four more months to go."
"That's even if she makes it to the nine months..." Ixel said casually trying to irritate Reyna more.
"Ixel!" Reyna was shocked at her remark. "You take that back. She will be full term and the baby will be healthy. Narima just has to eat enough for two."
"But she can't keep eating and then throwing up." Gio looked over at Narima's still body. She had grown weaker with each passing day that he began to regret taking her away from the Golden Pride. He quickly shook his head to avoid his thoughts to drift.
"We just need to find something the baby wants to eat." Reyna said calmly, annoyed with Gio.
"We haven't tried mortal..." Ixel continued to make comments glaring intently at Reyna. Gio coughed to hide his laugh at how upset Reyna was becoming.
"You can't be serious?" Reyna growled. "You need to be serious right now. This could be devastating to Narima."
"I'm always serious." Ixel's orange eyes stared down Reyna. "And I know for a fact she doesn't like being here anymore than she liked being with the rapist lion. So if anything, why not try anything new with mortals?"
"Ixel go away!" Reyna was fuming as she walked closer to Ixel. "You're not making matters any better. The princess will not be eating mortals. It is against beast law."
"Well neither are you!" Ixel roared. She stormed away and ran into the forest.
Gio watched her leave and thought about going after her but he could not leave Narima alone with Reyna. His priority was to protect Narima from Reyna. Even after all the hospitality she had given them, he felt like she was hiding something. Gio knew she was holding something back and he planned to find out before the baby was born.
"Reyna..." Gio looked at her with his gleaming hazel eyes. "Don't you think it would be worth a shot to have Narima try Ixel's idea?"
"You're considering feeding Narima mortals?!" Reyna snarled taken aback by his suggestion. "Have you completely lost your mind?"
"I don't mean for her to eat them, but they do offer other edible things... Would you rather she die, along with her baby?" Gio chose his words carefully.
Reyna stopped and turned to look back at Gio. She looked over at Narima who was slowly getting up and walking towards the bowl of water they had given her. The trip to the river had become too much for her to handle so Ixel had brought her a wooden bowl. Reyna hated it and the way it made Narima look like a common mutt. But she thought it was better than risking Narima getting hurt. She watched as Narima tried her best to drink but with hardly any strength, drinking water was too much of an effort.
"No, but killing a mortal is against all beasts law." Reyna growled deep. "We would have to take her to the council and have her punished. Mortals are not to be messed with.
"Who said anything about killing?" Gio growled. "And who would dare punish the Wolf Queen?"
Reyna walked over to Narima and knelt at her side. She gracefully ran her hands over Narima's side, feeling her ribs and her growing child. Reyna could sense both of their heart beats. The child was strong but Narima's heart was slow and weak.
