Hugo had been introduced to the Drima Pack, and even though their customs were much different than those of the royal family, they still followed the rules. Mortals were not to be dealt with, if the wolves stayed in their territories and the mortals in theirs, there would be no problem. That was something Hugo had trouble dealing with. He had never been up close with a mortal yet, he passed by their towns, was greeted by them while in the presence of Fabian and they showed no fear towards him.
Alpha Fabian's pack was one of the richest in the Ropun Territories and therefore had the biggest amount of land. In the weeks he had spent in Fabian's territory, Hugo had explored every section of his land, but he was growing tired of waiting.
"Alpha Fabian, I need news." Hugo demanded one afternoon after the pack had been released from a meeting. "I need to know if anyone has heard any news of Narima."
"Hugo, no one has responded with any word yet." Fabian scowled. He ignored the fact that Hugo was only twenty-three and ordering him around. "I know you want to find the princess, but you wouldn't know where to start."
"What about Toma? Their territory curves around the seas and has many small islands." Hugo growled. "And Isla. They are their own island."
"Alpha Isabella said she would meet you here. Alpha Ilios of the Toma wolves will be here too." Fabian turned to his papers. "Alpha Mavis of the Veka wolves has already been informed and he will update us on what he has found via phone conference only since it is a much longer trip for him."
"What about Sawlin? Ramal? Jïnfă?" Hugo was naming off the countries he had been briefed about before crossing the ocean.
"Alpha Loupe will call as well. He's having issues with the lions." Fabian shook his head. "Sure, no more female mortals have disappeared, but there have been some irregular lightning storms in the area causing some dangerous weather."
"So what? Let the lions deal with their own shit and have the wolves focus on finding Narima." Hugo growled. "Cats can't be that difficult to control."
"You'd be surprised..." Fabian scoffed. "Lions are much bigger than us in size and strength. But we are faster than them and can change direction much quicker than their rumbling bodies. And don't get me started on the tigers. Anyway, I have yet to contact Alpha Wamu and Alpha Dilhi."
"How long before they are all here?" Hugo paced in front of Fabian, ignoring his quick lesson on the cats.
"Just a couple of more days, Hugo." Fabian closed his eyes. "You need to get your mind off the princess for a few hours. You're stressing me out pacing the way you are now."
"I can't, Fabian!" Hugo growled slightly annoyed, his voice breaking. "I love Narima! I've loved her since the moment I set my eyes on her when she was five. And the day I told her my feelings, she teleported out of my life! I've been searching for her for nearly ten years and I haven't come close. Not once. I've endured jaguars, bears, wolves, vampires and mortals and not once have I caught Narima's scent. I'm beginning to lose my mind!"
"Hugo, calm down, please." Fabian was trying not to become enraged with him. "I know what it's like to live without your mate. Mine passed away twenty years ago and left me alone with our son Gonzalo... It is hard, but you can manage."
Hugo tried to interrupt but Fabian silenced him with a glare.
"I know Narima isn't dead. I know that for a fact. But you must understand that there will be days when you can't be there for her. There will be days that she pushes you away because she needs to be alone, but that doesn't mean she has stopped loving you. You need to pretend like this time away from her is like those days."
