Two months had passed since the vampire attack. Hugo had been locked in a cell in the royal castle. And what a castle it was! He had been amazed when he saw the majesty of it. It looked nothing like the pictures his elder had taught him and his pack mates. It had huge red and black stone walls with tall watchtowers that reached high into the trees and an enormous front door.
Hugo could vaguely remember it when he was pulled through the portal. The sensation was weird as if he was being torn to pieces and sewn back together. Or maybe that was the pain he felt since everyone else was not complaining. He could not remember what happened to Narima once he passed through. His screams echoed in his head and he felt fire pulsating throughout his entire body.
He soon managed to quiet himself and sleep through the pain. Now that he was awake, he did not know how long it had been that he had been asleep.
Days had passed before he knew what was going on. The Moonstone pack healer had been called to fix his broken bones and punctured lungs. He had been told that his body was not recognizing the internal damage but only his wounds on the outside. Aside from the constant burn, Hugo had not felt any pain while breathing so he did not understand how they had known he needed to be healed. He overheard conversations between the Moonstone wolves, them complaining about him still being alive.
It needs to be killed! We are in danger with something like that living so close to us!
When Haze silenced them, no one else made comments about Hugo. He was kept quarantined in the far back of the dungeon ever since. His pain subsided as the days went by, but Hugo noticed some things were different about him. His sense of smell was stronger and his hearing too. He could hear the Moonstone wolves walking around the castle above him. He started to recognize their routines from the days he spent under them.
There goes the hunting party. There are the royal guards changing shifts and Boxer is chasing Cisne again. Hugo sighed into the darkness. He was bored. Hugo had not seen another wolf for a while, not even the healer had returned. The first night he spent in the dungeon alone, he had tried to stay awake and see who brought him his meals. He soon saw the small portal that was created for the sole purpose of delivering his meals. He began to realize that the Moonstone wolves consisted of the most talented wolves around the world. Almost every single one had some sort of ability to offer to the High Alphas that it made Hugo question why he had been born unlucky to have one. His elder had only mentioned it once before.
"Ha, I bet Zed is laughing his ass off right now, screaming I told you so to Kane." Hugo said to himself as he continuously paced around the cell. "That little prick knew something like this would happen... That I would fail during the royal hunt so bad, I would be locked away forever!"
"Zed shouldn't be one to talk. He was scared to even dare fight a wild bear. Yet you didn't even think twice about fighting a centuries old vampire."
Hugo stopped pacing. He had heard that voice before.
"Hey, kid." High Alpha Bandit stepped away from the shadows of the dungeon and into Hugo's line of sight. "I've heard stories about you that are hard to believe. If it hadn't been for Narima, and your constant screaming, I would have ordered you dead."
"Very comforting, sir." Hugo responded sarcastically. "Don't quite understand why everyone has been complaining about me... I've been quiet for a few days now."
"Try two months." Bandit smiled as he opened the door to the cell. "And the complaints are not because of the noise."
"Then would you care to enlighten me and explain why I'm locked away?" Hugo growled low. "I'm sure if I didn't mess something up, I wouldn't be locked away like some common fool."
