"Guys, is that what I think I saw?" Umber said staring.

"Yes! My ship has sailed!" Kinkajou said a little bit too loudly.

Turtle and Carnelian stopped what they were doing and turned to their direction, blushing.

"You did not see anything." Carnelian said before anyone could speak.

"Yah. What she said." Turtle said said, still red.

Apparently, the dare had become a make-out session. I totally didn't see that coming.

"Well, it's getting late, we should all go." Turtle suggested.

They all went to their caves to get some sleep. "Wow — I can't believe — Turtle and Carnelian? Never would have expected that." Qibli muttered to Winter. My thoughts exactly.

~The next day~

The next afternoon, the Jade Winglet met in the music cave with the Silver Winglet. As Winter arrived, he could hear noises coming from the cave. Qibli soon followed after Winter, bounding into the cave. The SandWing headed straight toward the drums, where he ousted a bewildered looking SkyWing. Qibli drummed with his whole body, he looked like he was dancing. Turtle and Anemone started dancing. RainWings whirled together, scales shimmering from color to color in time with the music.

~After Class~

I need to ask Moon about Bandit. Winter caught up with Moon on her way to the library.

"I need you to look at my scavenger," he said brusquely. Don't make eye contact! Don't think about her! You're a disgrace to the total IceWing lineage, Winter! Your brother would never have been so week!

"Oh," she faltered. "I — I mean, sure, but — I don't really know anything about them."

"Then use your intuition or whatever," he said. Or . . . whatever.

"I was just, um, going to the library," Moon said.

"Fine, I'll bring him there." He whisked away before she could protest.

"Oooo," Winter heard Kinkajou say. I hope she doesn't give away the truth . . .

Winter came hurrying in, carrying Bandit's covered cage. He set it down in front of Moon and whisked the cloth off.

The NightWing crouched and peered inside. Why did I even ask for help? You are a dumb, idiotic IceWing!

Winter watched Moon look at his cage. The cage that he made looked like a big birdcage, but with elaborate little environment constructed inside of it. There were stairs, a running wheel on the lower level, a nest with tiny blankets piled on it on the upper level. There was also a swing hanging from the top bars of the cage.

"Awww, he's so cute," Kinkajou said while Winter snorted.

"Did you build all of this?" Moon asked, touching the cage gently with one claw.

Winter nodded. "All the stuff inside. I thought he'd like it, but he's hardly used any of it — he won't climb on the swing or use the running wheel. Mostly he eats and then goes back to sleep. I thought scavengers were curious and unpredictable, but he's unbelievably boring." He gave her a sideways look. "Any suggestions? Is he sick? I've been feeding him fruit, so he's eating fine. Why won't he do anything?"

Winter watched how Moon extended one claw though the bars of the cage. The scavenger jumped back, then looked up and seemed to recognize her. Tentatively, Bandit stepped forward and put one paw on Moon's talon.

"Maybe —" she started but hesitated.

"Maybe he's depressed," Sunny interjected, coming over to peek inside. "Webs was like that for a while after the Summer Palace attack. He didn't get out of bed for months."

"Oh, poor little Bandit," Kinkajou said sympathetically.

"Webs is a dragon," Winter pointed out. "This is a scavenger. Next you'll be telling me the cows and fish in the prey center are moping."

"Actually, my theory is that scavengers are a a lot more complicated than we think," Sunny said.

"He could be lonely," Moon said. As she withdrew her claw, Bandit sat back down on the blankets and his shoulders slumped.

"That's true!" Sunny said. "Scavengers usually live in packs. Although I met one who was happy with just the company of dragons for a long time, but Flower was kind of special."

"Bandit might be special," Winter huffed.

"He might be delicious ," Carnelian muttered from her corner. "I can think of a good way to find out."

Winter hissed at her. He turned to Moon and growled, "So, what? Should I get another scavenger, just to keep this one happy? What if that one is depressed, too?"

"Or you could make friends with it," Moon suggested.

He folded his wings and drew his head up. "What?"

"Flower and Smolder seemed to really like each other," Sunny added.

"How am I supposed to do that?" Winter demanded. He flung the cover back on the cage. "This is useless," he growled, and stormed out of the library, fuming.

How dare she! I can't even make friends with dragons. How am I supposed to be friends with a scavenger?
