An Era Of Zombies

Part 1: No way to kill the Dead

Prologue:
The day has finally come. The day the dead rose. Asia Slade lives in a world where zombies roam the Earth turning every human they see. The injection was discovered in 5101 C.E. The injection would give you immortality they said, little did they know that the world would be ending in just 24 hours. The people were given immortality but the also turned to zombies. They weren't the green mindless zombies that we thought we knew but the stuff of nightmares which wore the faces of our loved ones. Nearly 1\2 the population were turned that first day of L.E, the Last Era. To be turned you must either have been injected, scratched by a zombie, or touched by pure zomtoxin. A person turned before the age of 18 will stop aging once 18. Anyone turned after 18 will be age locked. Nobody was safe. People weren't able to tell who was friend or zombie because they looked exactly the same except for the blood red eyes. The zombies quickly began wearing colored contacts.

Ever since that tragic day, Asia Slade has been on her own, doing her best to survives and not die. That's all she does though, survive. That's what everyone who is still human is doing, surviving. But then Asia meets Will, Sonnet, Darcy, Ford, and Wade at Fort Resilient. They don't just survive, they live. Asia realizes that it's time for her to stop just surviving and to be alive again. Fort Resilient are great fighters but can they really win this war with the zombies. In a fight between the living and the dead, the dead outnumber the living And the only way to kill these monstrosities were to... well, there is no way to kill the dead.

Asia swore. The bead of blood on her hand grew. She had just cut herself with a stick. Asia had been on her weekly trek to the local supermarket to get resources and she had heard a noise and accidentally scratched her arm. She dropped her sharp stick on the ground. Her makeshift weapon. It wouldn't do any good against the zombies though. The only thing her sad stick could do is anger them. Asia was born at the very beginning of the Last Era. Asia named it that herself because the royal family of Earth wasn't alive to name it that. It happened very fast. The scientists had discovered that blasted zomtoxin, an element that could be used as a way to live forever.

The scientists created millions of zomtoxin injections and anyone rich enough brought it. There were even some who spent everything they had for the blasted stuff. Prince Fitzwilliam Delancy of Earth was the first to be injected. He was still alive for 12 hours and so the scientists deemed the injection as safe for the public. But after 24 hours, news that the prince had turned into a savage monster. 12 hours later, about 1\4 of Earth turned also. They were zombies. Not the green eye bulging zombies who were slow and stupid. These zombies were flawless, smart, strong, fast, and pure evil. The planet was in chaos. Some hid, some committed suicide, some fled their homes, and some fought. But the zombies were too powerful. Asia had been an orphan at Madame Callibra's house for orphans at the time. She had been 16, one of the oldest child there. No one had ever adopted her, nobody seemed to want the too bold and reckless child. She had left with her friend Fey, another 16 year old orphan, a year and a month ago.

"This is crazy Asia! You think that you can find your mother in this chaos? She might not even be alive!" Fey had shouted at her.
"I am not going to spend my last days hiding, never knowing who my mother is. And I don't care that I might be killed or turned out there but I will not start here!"
There were big fat tears running down Asia's face as she shouted back at her only friend. Fey had been Asia's rock. The calm to Asia's fire.
"You don't have to go with me Fey. But, I really hope you will. I'm scared Fey."
Asia's hands were trembling as she packed her belongings into her backpack. She turned and faced Fey. Fey's gray eyes were almost black and her eyes were also spilling tears. Fey rubbed away the tears and then she grabbed a full backpack from their tiny wooden closet. What was this?, Asia wondered.

"I packed this a very long time ago just in case I had to leave in short notice," said Fey. " If you won't stay then neither will I. We will go together Asia, and we will find your mother."
Fey's parents had both died when she was 12, killed by the zombies, and she'd came to the orphanage which had turned into more of a safehouse. It was kept secret and Madame Callibra was smart and cautious.

Asia had been left here in the orphanage with nothing but a little name tag that read Asia Slade when she was only two. She couldn't remember anything before that, though there was a small memory, one that didn't make sense at all though.

"There be dragons," joked Asia and she rubbed away her tears. "There be dragons".
