An Era Of Zombies

Part 11: Sonnet XVII

"I'm sorry Janelle. It was my idea,"Darcy said in a sleepy voice.

Janelle had been extremely furious when she saw Will & Asia with dazed Darcy & Sonnet. Sonnet hadn't been hit as hard as Darcy and so Sonnet was already back to normal. Sonnet looked nervous and anxious. She was the kind of girl who never got into trouble and was a total nerd-the good kind though. Janelle looked disappointed in them, she was shooting daggers with her eyes.

"Darcy, you know better than to go near the Forsaken Rocks. What were you thinking? And bringing Asia with you?" Janelle's anger made her look taller than she was. Janelle had a small bird like body. She had short blonde hair and was probably only 4 ft.She was only 23 but she bared a heavy burden, she was in charge of a survival camp with zombies roaming everywhere outside it. Asia felt a little guilty for not listening to Janelle.

"I'm sorry Janelle. I really am. I was just bored and wanted to show Asia the Rocks," Darcy said.

"Sonnet?" Janelle turned her eyes to her.

"Darcy pressured me!"

"Sonnet!" Darcy exclaimed.

"It's not just Darcy's fault Janelle," Asia said, trying to help. " Sonnet and I both agreed."

Janelle sighed. "I want you all to go to Dr. Ashton and get yourselves checked out. I have to go discuss something with Silas."

Dr. Ashton said that Asia would be okay & so would Sonnet but Darcy had a very bad gash on her arm that would have gotten infected if not treated soon. Darcy reluctantly let him put the medication cream on her arm. Ford rushed in. "Darcy, what happened?"

Darcy just shrugged, "I just went zombie hunting with Sonnet & Asia. We're still alive Ford, calm down."

Ford looked mad," What were you thinking? You could have gotten killed Darcy! And bringing Sonnet?!?"

Sonnet looked a little sad. Ford had just implied that she was weak. "I'm not weak."

Ford looked at her, "I didn't say you weren't." He looked a little embarrassed and regretful. "I only meant that-"

"Save it Ford," and then Sonnet walked out. It was the first time she heard Sonnet speak sharply.

"Nice move brother," Darcy teased.

"I didn't mean to offend her," He began and ran a hand through his hair. He was still wearing his regular clothes so he must have came here before it was curfew.

"Well she took it as an offense," Asia said.

"I suggest chocolates Ford," said Wade as he walked in. Will was right behind.

"Maybe even a love poem about how stupid you were," he said. Wade & Will chuckled.

Ford shook his head, grinning. "Well, I guess I'll go write a poem then."

Then Ford left after telling Darcy to be careful one last time. She was looking at Wade & Wade was looking back at her. He was wearing a blue tunic and a black leather jacket. His hair was unkempt. Wade looked away first, Asia thought she saw him smiling.

"So Darcy, you went zombie hunting?" Wade asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Why is everyone bringing it up? I'm okay aren't I?" Darcy replied.

Will gave a low laugh, "You have an almost infected cut and you're still dazed."

Darcy rolled her eyes and leaned back onto the wall behind the bench. "Whatever."

Asia walked over to Will and said, "Let's go outside."

Will gave her a strange look but followed her outside.

"What is it you wanted to tell me?"

"What?" Asia asked.

"Why are we out here?"

"Will, isn't it obvious?" Asia's inner girl was kicking in. "They need some time. Together."

"Why?" Will asked. He looked confused.

"Men, " Asia muttered.

They kind of got quiet until Will said something, "Asia, can I show you something?"

She wondered what it was. She reached for his hand and then followed him. They went out of the fort, but it was probably almost midnight. "Will, isn't it a little late for-"

"Don't worry about it," He said.

She trusted him. They walked to a small cave. Inside was a small pond, there was an opening above in the rock so the moonlight shone upon the water. It gleamed like crystal. The cave was serene and she noticed that there were things set up in it. There was a mattress on the ground and there were books on the ground. There were also some weapons in a corner.

She turned to Will, "What is this?"

"This is where I live," he said and sat on the mattress. "I found the cave one day on a scouting trip and I added some things that I had gotten from an abandoned store."

She was amazed, "I love it."

Will pulled her down next to her, "I'm sorry again for the things I said about Fey."

Asia winced at the memory, she thought she had forgiven him, but she stayed silent.

"And for the way I had acted before, I shouldn't have acted like that," he said quietly.

"Sonnet had told me that you haven't had a single girlfriend since you got here."

"Your question?"

"Why?" Will was beautiful and she saw the other girls looking at him. Will didn't say anything for a moment. She started to open her mouth and then he spoke.

"Because, it's not safe," he muttered.

"What do you mean?"

"I mean that the world is pretty messed up right now and I don't want to give my heart away when she could die just the next day," he answered. Asia believed him but she felt like he was still hiding something, she didn't push it though.

"I should probably be getting back," she said and got up.

"Asia do you love me?" Will asked. His face was serious and he was looking intensely into her eyes.

How could he ask that?

"I love you, Will," she told him and leaned in for a kiss.

Will looked sad and pulled back. Asia's face felt hot and she turned away to hide her embarrassment.

"I'm sorry," she said and turned to leave.

But the Will pulled her back and kissed her. He was holding her tightly and he was being rough. She didn't care though. She kissed back fiercely and with passion. He pulled her down to the mattress.

"Stay with me," he whispered.

"Okay, but we are just going to sleep," Asia said.

She thought she heard him give a small laugh. "Will-"

Then they were kissing again. Eventually she fell asleep in his arms.
