The funeral was later tonight so Asia decided to go find Will. Asia felt a little guilty about this morning. She had gone a little bit crazy, she supposed. It was just a dream after all, and she had even lied about trusting Will, whom she does trust. Asia decided to check the cave first.
Since the funeral was about to start in an hour, she'd already changed into a black blouse and a black skirt as well. She'd borrowed it from Sonnet but Sonnet was a bit smaller than Asia, so it was a little tight for her.
Asia arrived at the cave, only to find it empty. She was about to leave but then she got curious and began to look around more. She noticed that the mattress where they'd slept the other night was a mess. She came over to clean it up but then she found something under the mattress.
She picked it up, it was a small vial of green liquid. Asia recognized it and instantly dropped the bottle, it shattered on the floor. Crap, Asia thought and cursed herself silently. She'd never be able to clean the mess up. Asia decided to leave right away. She was still asking herself, Why does Will have Zomtoxin in his room?
Asia went back to her tent, and sat on the floor. Is Will a zombie? Was that why he had that vial?, Asia wondered. She recalled the fight they'd had that day with the attack drill. She had seen Will's eyes go red.
Asia had just dismissed the idea that they were really red. She'd just suspected it was the sun reflecting on his green blue eyes. Guess not. She wondered where Sonnet had gone, she was probably with Darcy.
She went outside her tent and saw Sonnet talking to Ford over at what she suspected was probably his tent. Then Ford left and Asia went over to Sonnet,
"What was that about?" Asia asked.
"I don't know, he just apologized for earlier," Sonnet said blushing.
"Sonnet, I think he likes you," Asia said smiling.
Sonnet only blushed more, "I guess it's possible."
Darcy came over to them, "I was just talking with Janelle, she's definitely stressed out."
"Poor Janelle, " Sonnet sighed, "I wish we could do more to help her."
"Yeah, but she's strong. We'll survive this," Darcy said, "We should also head to the funeral."
The funeral was going to be in the field. Since there were no coffins, they had laid out the body on the ground and then draped a small white sheet over it. Janelle had begun to talk about Carter and how he's in a better place.
Then they'd put him into a grave and buried him in the ground. They had about ten minutes of silence or to talk with family members. Then Janelle cleared her voice again, "I know that we just buried Carter Davis, but now we must move on. We need to have a meeting about what we'll do next."
"What do you mean? We'll just continue as normal won't we," an older man had said.
"We should relocate the camp, the zombies have found us, and left the victims body for us to find," another woman was saying.
"It's a message, " someone had shouted.
People began to yell out their ideas, but nothing could be heard. "Please be quiet everyone," Janelle shouted, "We will not argue like this among ourselves."
"Janelle, what did the note say?" Someone, Sonnet, asked.
Janelle sighed, "I will not lie to you. I will read you what the note says," and she pulled out a small piece of folded paper.
"We know you have the girl, Asia Slade. We want her back and you will give her to us or we will take her ourselves. Bring her to us and you will be safe, or we will destroy you all," Janelle read, "And there's instructions to bring her to a location and leave her there for them to fetch. They have given us three days to think about it or they will come."
They wanted her? They must've found out she was immune. Her mind drifted back for the zombie that had attacked her and talked about someone named Lady Lucien.Someone had shouted, "Then we give her over. There are children, children, here Janelle. We cannot let them destroy us." Asia knew that was the best idea. She was willing to sacrifice her life for the camp, her life was worth less than all these people.
"Absolutely not!" It'd been Will who shouted it, Asia was a little surprised to hear him stand up for her. Her heart gave a start. Will was standing next to Wade , closer to the front of the crowd," They lie and will kill us all anyways."
"Of course we won't hand over her Will, Asia is one of us. She deserves to be safe but we cannot ignore the note," Janelle answered.
"We need to fight back!" some one shouted. Asia suddenly realized that she'd shouted it.
"How do you suppose we do that Asia?" Janelle asked, not rudely but curious.
"Well, we need to find where the headquarters are first of all, and then we'll form a plan to attack," Asia answered, "We could scout the forest."
Janelle responded, "I agree with Miss Slade that something must be done, but what can we do against the zombies. We are destructible, the aren't. They fight better than us and they can turn us all. The effects are immediate even if we won't be full zombie yet."
Asia paused for a moment, she hadn't considered that. Then she saw Dr. Ashton walk up to Janelle.
"I think I might have found a way to make us all immune like Asia. What if we could all fight as well as the zombies?" Dr. Ashton had said, "We could turn the tables."
The crowd gasped. A way to make all of them immune would definitely give us a better chance. We'd tip the odds.
"How did you do that?" Janelle asked.
"I used Asia's blood samples, she has the Vitallien in her blood. But Vitallien only stops the evil blood lust part. She still has her enhanced abilities. I can show you if you want."
"I'm afraid a demonstration would be required Doc," Janelle responded, "We cannot afford to have us all turn to zombies."
"I will inject myself then," and Dr Ashton injected himself with a syringe of Asia's blood before anyone could stop him.
"Did it work?" Asia asked.
"I don't know, but I certainly feel stronger, " he answered.
"Test it out," Darcy said, with her arms crossed.
Dr. Ashton went to the nearest tree and he jumped. The crowd gasped as he landed at the very top of the tree. Then he jumped back down, landing swiftly.
"Try to crush that bolder over there," someone had suggested.
Then Dr. Ashton went over to the boulder and slammed his fist down on it, the boulder split in two. Everyone applauded him, "It works," everyone was saying. For the first time in a long while, Asia could feel hope inside.
